I just saved $400 a year by switching to GEICO and with higher coverage too.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback LX CVT

$21,215 dealer cost
$575 profit
$1,595 freight, PDI, levies
$125 A/C & tire environmental fee
$2,821 taxes
$90 transfer title, register and transfer insurance from old vechile

$26.4k OTD

Hope that's okay. Needed something right away, didn't have much time to shop around. Wanted the hatchback manual transmission in black but it would have been a special order.

I was pretty much in the same boat. My '05 Civic was giving me too many back to back problems near the end of the year and it culminated with an oil leak around the CAM and the timing belt. Since I was already at a Honda dealership, I test drove an Aegean Blue Sport Hatchback and ended up trading in the '05. I wanted to go manual again for Civic #5, but given that I live in Nashville and there's a lot of stop n' go traffic from time to time, I decided to give my knee a rest.

Since I've totaled my baby, I've been asking all the dealers in my area for quotes on EXT w/ sensing and EXL's (I can't decide >_>). These are the quotes I've been getting:
Moss Bros:
EXT w/ sensing: $20,732
EXL: $21,189
-didn't specify what those prices included, I'm waiting for them to give me OTD price/price breakdown

Spreen:
EXT w/ sensing: $21,382
-includes destination and handling
EXL: Will be following up with them this weekend on a quote

Riverside Honda:
EXT w/ sensing: wouldn't quote me as they didn't have a car but they are going to try to get one for Spreen and work with me on the price.
EXL: Will be following up with them this weekend on a quote

Corona Honda:
EXL: $21,455
EXT w/ sensing: They keep quoting me for an EXT >_>

Do you guys think I should I be able to get the prices down more with Memorial Weekend coming up?

(Sorry if this is the wrong place >_<)

Pretty good.

Got my EXT with sensing for 20800 including dest charge. I wager you can get one for 20500 at the lowest

Do you really want to put up with Black? I had 2 black civics and they were massive PITA paintwise. If that's the color you want then go for it.

I don't usually see these from Honda dealers, but just received this in an email:

"Because of its amazing success, we are continuing the special offer from March and April to those who weren't able to take advantage.
We will pay you up to 145% of Kelly Blue Book1 for your vehicle, PLUS we will Double Your Down Payment
up to $2000 and with No Payments until Jan 2018."

I take it they are full of it?

Yeah right, no dealer is going to pay you 145% of book value. That's why they put the "up to" in that line every time.

Yes I figured. Just found it odd coming from a Honda dealership. I see it all of the time with Chevy and especially Ford. But lately I'm getting more emails from Honda dealers than ever. Like out of the blue emails where I haven't had any contact in months. I know it's a mass emailing. They just seem more desperate lately. I guess they are feeling the decline in sales as well.

One of the Honda stores here calls so incessantly I had to block their number. One day I got a call from 3 different sales people at that same store.

Caution, long post incoming:

I leased a 2017 Civic EX Sedan with Sensing yesterday (5/19/17) in the Harrisburg, PA area. The price was somewhat higher than I wanted, but in my area the EX trim with Sensing is very rare (usually 1 or none on local lots). The closest dealer ended up having one of the best offers, and it wasn't worth it to me to travel 50+ miles for a $100-$300 savings, if that.

Some numbers below:

36 month lease
12,000 miles per year
MSRP: $23,015
Sales Price: $20,891.42 (Car included wheel locks, all season mats, and splash guards. I didn't want these, but they were already on the car, so they gave me a slight discount for that)
Acquisition Fee: $595

Down payment: $269.99 (first month lease) + $51 initial title fees + $89.55 initial registration fees + $138 document fee + $10 PA Tire Tax = $558.54

Money Factor: 0.0008 (x2400 = 1.92%)
Residual: 59% (went down a percentage point or two due to the sensing package from the normal EX)
Residual Value: $13,578.85

Depreciation: $7,907.57
Rent charge: $1,009.63
Total base payments: $8,917.20
Divided by 36 months: $247.70
Sales Tax: $22.29
Monthly payment: $269.99

So the monthly payment is about 1.17% of MSRP. I was shooting for 1%, but there wasn't a lot of room to negotiate (I went straight EX, every lot has 20+).

Overall the leasing process went smooth and I'm happy with the outcome. It isn't the exact price I wanted, but the monthly cost is low enough, plus I also get 2 free oil changes and some additional benefits by picking the local dealer. And I do have the opportunity to buy at the end of the lease if I choose.

They did try to sell an extended warranty plan pretty hard. Initially they offered 3 plans from $50-$75 a month that covered maintenance, wear and tear, and essentially anything beyond Honda's limited warranty. But the $1800 cost over 3 years...for a lease...seemed excessive (my thought would be to save the money, and only if you spend over $1800 in repairs in 3 years would it even make sense). When I said no, they wanted to know why and they could "work with me to make the cost fit my budget", and "could I see the value in it". And immediately they said they could lower the price, which shows the ridiculous margin in the product. I think they had some "lite" packages as well. It took about 5 minutes of polite declines to finally get them to not sell me anything. But I can see how they can wear down people and sell them on "peace of mind". Also, why would I need these expensive protection plans on a brand new car that's supposed to be reliable? :)

As a side note, I initially emailed 10 dealerships, and seven responded. Almost all had the same offer, around $275/month with taxes and fees. Hopefully all this information can help!

Color: White
MSRP: $29,175.00
Sales Price: $24,959
Dealer Fee: $793 ( 489 destinations, 199 etching, ~95 cleaning, few more dollars for tire etc)
Tax: $1,736
Tag/Title/Fees: 312
OTD Price: $27800

I hit 4 dealers before i got this price. First 3 did not want to go below 27,500 for actual car price + all fees + tax + title and I wanted $27500 OTD :). 4th dealer I offered firm 27500 OTD.. but agreed on 27800 (stupid etching+cleaning fee). There was maybe room for another $100 or $200 to push down but I did not want to waste time anymore.

Yes, I agree you could have done better on price. I got a 2017 EX-T sedan CVT and Sensing for 20,800 22200 OTD. Monthly payment 360 at 0.9APR.

@rickyv got a lease, which I imagine changes things quite a bit.

The non-Touring models with Sensing vary the most since, as the guy said, they're usually in very low supply so you don't have much room to negotiate on them. My 2016 EX-T with Sensing was 21,300 (around 24k OTD but I believe that included a service contract).
