What did you drive before the Type R came out? How did you hear about it?

I almost bought a ITR which I regret not doing years ago. Had sold the M2 and E46M3 for the CTR in 2017.

Iā€™m a hot hatch whore. Iā€™ve had a 2007 Mazdaspeed 3, a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 and a 2010 GTI. I briefly went over to an NC Miata and a Camry after my son was born in an effort to have practicality and fun. Sold both to buy the CTR. It is without question the best vehicle Iā€™ve ever owned. It has just enough of the rawness of the MS3 with none of the torque steer. It also has 90% of the interior quality and comfort of the GTI while being a FAR more capable car. The GTI was happiest at 6/10 driving effort. The MS3 was happiest at 8/10. The CTR is just as good at 3/10 as it is at 10/10.

My All Season winter setup is a reminder of how much potential the car has with the right rubber. The only other car that I enjoyed as much was my '85 535i 5-speed, bought as a demo in '86. (I'm old, you'll be there someday hopefully).

I didn't know about the CTR when I bought my coupe. The moment I saw the prototype however I knew I had to have one, even if I had no clue how to drive a stick shift. The looks alone sold me. I loved how wild and crazy it looked, and the press reviews sold me on getting one. Well I got my opportunity and was able to drive it for 2 1/2 good years. I miss that thing, and can't wait to see some 2021 LEs in the wild soon hopefully.

The Type R is my very first car and I absolutely love it to death. I actually signed the petition to help bring it to North America!
Well thanks to you we got it lol

My daily was a '03 M45 and weekends were a toss up between a '96 Civic hatch or '95 S14. The M45 sadly was totaled and the hatch was ran over by a semi trying to take a corner too tight... I had been reading up on the CTR and had some luck finding one and here we are.

Long history of performance cars, then I saw this thing being talked about when it was released. Looked weird to me, but then I saw the times it put down and some spirited reviews. I was like 'ok that's hilarious what'd they pay you, it's a Civic?' Then I took my wife to go test drive a used one to see what the big deal was.

That was a mistake.

I bought one less than a year later because OMG the car is F-ing amazing and so much fun to drive in any condition. Fast / slow - just an enjoyable car that does everything well imo.

I've had plenty of stoplight monsters, there is something about the Type R that makes it feel like a scalpel compared to a sledgehammer as far as how it puts power down.

If you put someone in a Type R - blindfolded - then had them back to back drive it and a few other cars I'd guarantee it would finish at the top if not dead first.

Car history - 93 5.0 / 99 Cobra / 97 Vette / 01 Cobra / 04 Cobra / 08 STi / 2011 GT 5.0 / 2010 GTi / 2014 EVO X GSR / 2014 EVO X MR / 2005 WRX / current stable.
I agree, this is one amazing car. Curious though how the handling compares in your opinion to the EVO?

Had to laugh about the 'mistake'. I had a perfectly good '17 SI, went out this spring to just 'test drive' a preowned '18 CTR because no test drives on new ones. Told my wife, and she said 'you'll wind up buying it'. 'No, just checking it out' Still checking it out every time I open my garage.

I was actually looking at sporty 4dr sedans such as Audi A4 with 6sp and even the Guilia, and balked at the mid $40k price which I thought was a bit much especially with their expected depreciation. I read a lot about the CTR and ended up selling my 2011 WRX, which I thought was super, until I owned the CTR for about a week. It is in a totally different league in terms of a pure performance car, and if it had slightly more power and greater traction, it would embarrass most BMWs and pony cars too. Motor Trend gave it the highest praise recently when they stated that it drove like a FWD Porsche. Sorry, but none of these other cars compare to any Porsche, so the CTR is playing way above its price range.

Performance cars started with a ā€˜93 Z28 Camaro. Took it off the road after 7 speeding tickets and made it a modified racecar. Raced it for 2 years on the CASC circuit and got my addiction satisfied. Drove some ordinary stuff since and after a 2016 Mazda 3 hatchback 2.5 (last car) I got interested in the CTR after some on line reviews. Found a couple of dealers who had orders coming in and long story short I got mine in May 2020. With COVID-19 and car sales down at the time I paid less than MSRP! Lucked out ?. Iā€™m pretty sure I could beat my ā€˜ol racecar with my new stock CTR at the track.

My Honda history started with an '81 Accord hatch followed by an '87 Integra LS, a '98 Integra GS-R, and an '02 RSX Type-S, all purchased brand new. When my RSX was stolen, I tried a '14 TSX auto and was totally bored. So I bought a high mileage '02 RSX Type-S and drove it for two years before acquiring my CTR. I considered a Focus ST after driving one that belonged to a friend, but they discontinued them before I was ready. I might have gone with a Civic Si if it was available as a hatch. I started saving up and waited for the 2020 models to arrive. I love it so far.

My history was and still is big power Mustangs since I build them daily at my business. My Honda life started with a 09' SI sedan which I still drive most of the time. Got my wife a new 14' Accord Sport which was replaced by a 19' Accord Sport 2.0 turbo 10 speed. (Great car and sleeper by the way!?) Got my daughter a 07' SI sedan for her first car. She still loves it and drives it daily! I had wanted a FK8 since they were first confirmed to be coming to the US. I bought my 19' new without even a test drive on May 11th 19', I still have it and won't be selling it! Expanding into another Honda, (Acura actually) next month and I can't wait for my dream car to actually arrive! (NC1 NSX) but one thing is absolutely certain.....the Type R is going NOWHERE!!
