Today I swapped the standard sandpaper armrest pieces with the faux-suede CTR version. Pretty easy job. I was a little worried the CTR armrest would look out of place, given the absence of this material anywhere else in my car. But I'm happy with the result (ignore the random cat/dog hair):
Bonus pic: here's the center piece from the CTR, alongside the OEM Si side pieces (in case anyone's wondering what that combination looks like):
Eventually I'll probably do the door armrests/inserts as well. I'm in no rush, though.
PS - thanks to @pongoro87 for shipping these pieces out to me so quickly, and also for some installation guidance
