Installed a spare tire sub today. Fits perfect and sounds great.

That is neat! Never knew these existed. For hookup, did you use the wires from the oem sub? Or is it run with it's own amp?

It’s a powered sub, no external amp needed.

How is the sound? I just changed the front speakers and they have even less bass than the OEM ones. Gonna have to add a sub, it’s driving me crazy.

So it has it own built in amp? Sweet. Does it fit well in the small doughnut spare?

The bass greatly improves if you also soundproof the doors and trunk.

Hooked up to front speaker wires just behind the Oem head unit. Used a line out to RCA converter then ran rca cable from head unit to sub. Self powered, or built in amp. Ran power wire from battery to spare tire area.

I think it sounds great, it is capable of thumping bass.

I put in some butyl type sound deadening mat in the spare tire area. Was going to test before and after but got ahead of myself. Sounds great though.

Here are the links to the sub and line out converter I used. And the sound deadening mat. Of course rca cable, power wire, fuse block and keyed power wire are also needed.
I found a good wire diagram for my EXL head unit on this forum that helped me find the correct wires for front speakers.

I purchased way more sound deadening than needed for spare tire area as I may use it in other areas and have other projects for it.

Did you have to pull out the head unit for the rca line converter?

It doesn't seem too much thicker than a turkey cooking pan, you could probably tap it back.

I ran over god knows what one night and it completely ripped off one of my under carriage shroudy things. (sorry for the technical jargon)

It sounds like he did, though I tapped into my front speaker wires without pulling the headunit. I tapped the wires at the connectors that lead to the doors - they are very easily accessible in the footwell/lower dash area. Here is my post in another thread:
This is the right side (passenger side in NA). The left side (NA driver side) is identical, although there may be a wire or two in the way due to the fuse box.

Here are the wiring diagrams. Don’t just go off color as you may see two or three wires that are the same color in the same connector. Note the location of the wire as well. For instance, FR+ is gray, #3 pin; when viewing the terminal side of the connector as shown in the diagram, it is the top right wire, next to the purple #2 FR-.

Be aware there are three other gray wires and one other purple wire. This isn’t a problem if you’re paying attention to the wire location.

And I also mounted my LOC (LC2i Pro) in the factory amp location behind the kick plate in the passenger footwell.
I did a thing (is that still a thing? Lol)

I installed these door projectors. If anyone gets these online, I strongly recommend using these Command Strips and skip the 3M adhesive it comes with because they suck and do not stick at all. It took some skill to measure ever so carefully to not obstruct the floor trim when closing the door while positioning correctly with the magnets. 3M adhesive on the magnets suck as well, I used double sided tape for them. For both magnets and the projectors, I alcohol wiped their surface and the surface they were going to be stuck on, wiped dry, warm the area up with a hair dryer, and stick/press for 30 seconds to a minuite.

I'd recommend using your extra sound deadening mats in your doors -- it's super easy to remove the door panels and put the mats in, especially if you aren't concerned about covering every square inch. I just eyeballed it rather than trying to make a template and it made a huge difference.
