That is neat! Never knew these existed. For hookup, did you use the wires from the oem sub? Or is it run with it's own amp?Installed a spare tire sub today. Fits perfect and sounds great.
It’s a powered sub, no external amp needed. That is neat! Never knew these existed. For hookup, did you use the wires from the oem sub? Or is it run with it's own amp?
So it has it own built in amp? Sweet. Does it fit well in the small doughnut spare? It’s a powered sub, no external amp needed.
How is the sound? I just changed the front speakers and they have even less bass than the OEM ones. Gonna have to add a sub, it’s driving me crazy.
The bass greatly improves if you also soundproof the doors and trunk. It’s a powered sub, no external amp needed.

Hooked up to front speaker wires just behind the Oem head unit. Used a line out to RCA converter then ran rca cable from head unit to sub. Self powered, or built in amp. Ran power wire from battery to spare tire area. That is neat! Never knew these existed. For hookup, did you use the wires from the oem sub? Or is it run with it's own amp?
I think it sounds great, it is capable of thumping bass. It’s a powered sub, no external amp needed.

I put in some butyl type sound deadening mat in the spare tire area. Was going to test before and after but got ahead of myself. Sounds great though. The bass greatly improves if you also soundproof the doors and trunk.
Here are the links to the sub and line out converter I used. And the sound deadening mat. Of course rca cable, power wire, fuse block and keyed power wire are also needed.Installed a spare tire sub today. Fits perfect and sounds great.
Did you have to pull out the head unit for the rca line converter? Here are the links to the sub and line out converter I used. And the sound deadening mat. Of course rca cable, power wire, fuse block and keyed power wire are also needed.
I found a good wire diagram for my EXL head unit on this forum that helped me find the correct wires for front speakers.

I purchased way more sound deadening than needed for spare tire area as I may use it in other areas and have other projects for it.
It sounds like he did, though I tapped into my front speaker wires without pulling the headunit. I tapped the wires at the connectors that lead to the doors - they are very easily accessible in the footwell/lower dash area. Here is my post in another thread:Did you have to pull out the head unit for the rca line converter?
And I also mounted my LOC (LC2i Pro) in the factory amp location behind the kick plate in the passenger footwell. This is the right side (passenger side in NA). The left side (NA driver side) is identical, although there may be a wire or two in the way due to the fuse box.
Here are the wiring diagrams. Don’t just go off color as you may see two or three wires that are the same color in the same connector. Note the location of the wire as well. For instance, FR+ is gray, #3 pin; when viewing the terminal side of the connector as shown in the diagram, it is the top right wire, next to the purple #2 FR-.
Be aware there are three other gray wires and one other purple wire. This isn’t a problem if you’re paying attention to the wire location.
I did a thing (is that still a thing? Lol)

I'd recommend using your extra sound deadening mats in your doors -- it's super easy to remove the door panels and put the mats in, especially if you aren't concerned about covering every square inch. I just eyeballed it rather than trying to make a template and it made a huge difference. Here are the links to the sub and line out converter I used. And the sound deadening mat. Of course rca cable, power wire, fuse block and keyed power wire are also needed.
