I'm surprised by the motor oil posts 'any name brand full synthetic' is OK, but lots of people are hesitant on CVT fluid
Correct. And with good reason.

Transmission fluid is quite different from motor oil. The fluid's friction characteristics, viscosity, etc, all come into play when the valve body is sending signals around the internal components, telling the unit how to function. Aftermarket fluid, even if it meets the approved "spec" is different, and all bets are off regarding long term effectiveness.

Unless you beat the hell out of your car, a cooler isn't needed. Nor is expensive fluid.

I run the stock fluid. If someone gave me Amsoil, I wouldn't use it. I've been burned before with using aftermarket fluid in an AT; it didn't explode or anything, but it never shifted properly again.
I agree on the cooler. I mean sure if you beat on it and live in a super warm year round climate, then yeah go for it. For most of us, even tuned the CVT will do fine.

As far as Amsoil, it's sort of a cult thing IMO. Don't get me wrong, Amsoil makes good products. I've used some of them. But the notion that it's vastly superior to other quality fluids out there is a bit exaggerated.
