I have a Phearable 1.5R tune in my 2021 civic ex. I was looking at cvt coolers the other day, and I was wondering, would this really make my cvt last longer? I understand it would help the fluid if it’s running colder, but if I’m making consistent fluid changes(every 25k miles), with a good brand like amsoil, would a cooler make a difference?

My biggest fear right now is my transmission blowing, when I first bought this car, I launched it a few times (at least 7 times), I wasn’t aware of the consequences, as this is my first CVT. After doing research, I’ve been going very light off stops, and hopefully nothing comes back to bite me.

Now my question is, other than a CVT cooler, good maintenance, and not beating up my car, is there anything I can do to make the CVT last longer? This might sound dumb, as what I stated seems like all you could do to increase longevity, but if anyone has tried something and had success, please let me know.

Also, slightly off topic, but what temperature is normal for a cvt to run on?

Hey, I posted a thread exremely similar to your questions if you want to check it out, linked below.

Otherwise, a CVT cooler running Amsoil will %100 help. Don't launch, break boost, or WOT continuously; your foot significantly impacts how long it will last.

Healthy CVT temps will range around 200f. It also depends on how long you drive and the weather conditions.

Goodluck!

I'm pretty curious about whether or not I should switch to Amsoil, and if so how I would go about doing that type of fluid change.

Nice video, but what so you do if you currently have Honda HCF-2 in there? Are they safe to mix?
I saw you ask this question on another thread, let me know if you get an answer

I've run OEM fluid since 2017 and all is good. It's really a matter of regular changes every 25,000-ish miles and even more often if you drive very hard.

I run ETL CVT Cooler and helps alot especially for shorter drives and lower speeds. Cvt temps will be 165-170 ish for normal driving but if im on parkway or highway going high speed for a long period of time temps will be 185ish. Pushing the car hard going WOT i can reach 200s and once the temps go higher its alot harder for it to cool down usually when i get it to atleast 185 it wont go down under that even when fans do kick on but if i keep it low at 170 it will stay that low. I have only used HCF-2 havent thought about going to amsoil. Gradual acceleration from a stop is seemingly the most important thing . I have spun my wheels a few times from a stop just for fun but don’t recommend it lol.

CVT fluid is CVT fluid, they will mix and not do weird stuff. It's not like you're trying to run green and red coolant or dot 3 and 5 brake fluid.

Unless you beat the hell out of your car, a cooler isn't needed. Nor is expensive fluid.

I run the stock fluid. If someone gave me Amsoil, I wouldn't use it. I've been burned before with using aftermarket fluid in an AT; it didn't explode or anything, but it never shifted properly again.

I'm surprised by the motor oil posts 'any name brand full synthetic' is OK, but lots of people are hesitant on CVT fluid
