So the ticking sound I’m experiencing has been solved. It turned out to be the washer nut of the valve stem fell off and was rolling around inside the tire, making the metallic sound when it hits the rim. Of course, at high speed, the washer would stick to the tire by centrifugal force, thus making no sound.

Hope this helps?

I'll add it to the list lol.

Wow.....that is strange.

I'm sure you've done this but have you checked if a rock has gotten into the caliper bracket itself? TWICE I've yanked a perfectly sized rock from there. Granted my symptoms were that the brakes felt like they were exploding when I'd get on them lol.

Again, I'm sure you've checked, but is the dust shield bent in any way that would snag it? Larger tires not rubbing? Any play in the hubcentric rings (mine fit on super tight, even stay snug in place when I remove the wheels for storage)?

My NSX wheels have been perfect so far. Only negative I can say is I've heard the interwovens have gotten MUCH harder to source, so anything resembling a pothole gives me a mini panic attack given I probably won't be able to replace a bent one any time soon 😂

So update -

I jacked the car up - after confirming noise with my friend. We swapped just the front two tires for stock, and while the car was up we looked all in the wheel well for signs of the tire touching, or anything that would be able to rub on it, and nothing was evident. We re-checked the dust shields for rocks and just gave it a diligent once over, both sides.

Went for drive with the stockers on the front, NSX wheels on the back - #racerlyfe - and the noise is gone.

I took the wheel(s) the nsx wheels, and shook them, bounced them, rolled them around, and I can't find a single noise emanating from the wheel.

I tapped the shield under the car and sure it can present a noise if struck but nothing like I have with just the NSX wheels on lol.

I tapped the hub centric rings used with the NSX wheels to see if I could replicate the noise and I couldn't, but even if that was loose a bit while the wheel is off I would assume it would be tight in there with the wheel on?

I checked torque on all lug nuts prior to wheel removal

I tapped on the center cap and can't make it make any noise but when I put the wheels back on I'm going to take the center cap out just to test?

This one has me stumped guys. It's like god hates me and is like 'sweet wheels here is a horrid noise to to enjoy only when turning right'

I've experienced a number of things related to modifications and track driving that have caused weird noises- sometimes indirectly related to wheel setups:

I had a two-piece lug nut that would "tick" when I used it on one of my wheel sets. When turning, it would weight or otherwise load the lug and cause a very noticeable repeating noise. I normally always put the lugs back on the same corners of the car, so I couldn't figure out the cause of the noise. One day I was in a rush and just threw the lugs on whatever corner, and the ticking moved to a new wheel location.

Would also suggest checking the brake caliper bolts and make sure they are properly torqued. That would probably manifest as more of a "thumping" sound, but it's worth a mention.

I did blow a compliance bushing on the LCA at one point on track. That did cause some interesting noises, and I've had also experienced a blown endlink on the rear sway bar. That was sheer luck that I noticed a hairline crack in the housing, and was able to identify the cause of a very pronounced tick or metallic snapping when the suspension compressed in certain ways.

Do all 4 nsx wheels/tires, when placed in front, all make that noise? I'd try every combo to see if I can at least isolate the problem to 1 wheel. Checking out the lug nuts is also a good recommendation.

If all fails, it may be time to take it to a wheel/tire specialist. Not some sketchy "yooo I'll hook you up with sum sick dubzzz" cake decorator place but a higher end shop.

So to start at basics, and potentially a greivous oversight on my part -

Do you torque the NSX wheels to the spec of an NSX - 120 ft lbs

or

Do you torque the wheels to the spec of a Type R - 94 ft lbs

I have been doing 94 ft lbs - could that be my issue / oversight?

94 is what I used. Were these rims new or used?

I’ve always torqued to 94. Tracked with this spec as well with no issues

Used but seem flawless. I’m going to double check my torque and see if I missed something

Have the tires dismounted. I know you've bounced them around but.......
Always best to start at the beginning.

Torque to the spec of the studs - 94 ft/lbs. I've always torqued to 93 though because that's what I originally saw...

Ok latest round of attempts to fix this shit -

- Torqued wheels to 120 - same deal
- Took each wheel off - cleaned each surface and hub ring, mating surface on the back of the wheel, the hub itself - clean. Just in case some particulates were between the surfaces?
- Put wheels back one at a time - the most careful and precise lug nut torquing to 94ft you would ever witness

Same
Fucking
Noise
If
Not
Worse

While wheels were off up front I pushed and pulled on dust shield to see if any pebbles fell out as well.

About to sell these wheels and move back to stock I'm so out of ideas :(

Next thing I'm going to try is - quick jack the car up - turn wheels with car on and some speed put to wheels to see if noise can be identified. <shrug> After that I'm selling them because I'm sure they are fine and it's just my luck or something they drive fine they hold air I'm at a total loss.

If you’re ever in central Texas you can try mine out and see if you get the same issue

So... it seems like taking the tire off the specific wheel is what's left? I mean, it seems like you've checked most things besides doing that? *fingers crossed*
