I didn't have those issues, but in addition to the electrical/harness issue, my car had some paint defects from the factory. The DPSM said white shows up more frequently than other colors.

I bought my CTR in Aug. 2018, and it has 2341 miles on it. Last October, I installed a Takeda intake kit and a Mishi oil catch can. I stored it from mid-November to mid-April. On 5/21/19 I got the Emissions system/Rev match error display. Took it to the dealer the next day, and they got a P0442-EVAP system very small leak detected, and..
"On board snapshot showed DTC P0630-VIN not programmed or mismatch"
Other than the intake and catch can, I have not done any mods. The dealer contacted Honda tech support, and warranty was denied due to the intake. They suggested I put the stock intake back on and see if the codes disappeared...
Honestly not sure what to do at this point.. I had a bad experience with a Nissan Altima at this dealer in the early 2000s, and don't have a lot of confidence in them, but the next nearest dealer is over an hour away.

May as well get a tuning solution and turn the codes off. You are now a known vehicle at Honda warranty dept.

Unfortunately, this is true. If Honda corporate denied your claim due to modification, they will flag your VIN for all future repairs. If it wasn't for my DPSM, I'd be consulting with an attorney.

I have worked for many dealerships (Infiniti first in 1991) and ALWAYS as a service advisor or service manager, including a Honda dealer. Once ANY district service rep or manufacturer has been contacted (American Honda) you are on the radar, not ostracized but as stated correctly above "flagged", especially IF they have found something different from stock.

It is not a BAD thing, just that any other claim that goes up the ladder will be met with a small degree of extra examination.

Your unique perspective from past roles is appreciated for this discussion.

Based on my experience I fear that owners participating in diving schools will receive extra skepticism in addition to examination.

I'm very concerned the Honda Tech Line specialist misdiagnosed the situation and the DPSM had to step in to get another Tech Line specialist.

There seems to be an uptick of customers modifying ECU's on turbo motors and expecting warranty work. Unfortunately, Honda customers in my situation become collateral damage.

I do expect Honda to be merciful since they know their demographic is built on enthusiasts that personalize their cars.

The DPSM spoke with some of the local stores about getting me in a 2019. He couldn't guarantee anything and let the Sales Managers know I was looking at 2019 CTR's. One store offered $32k for my car ($2k below NADA clean trade-in for the low mileage) and $1k under MSRP on the new sale. Another offered full NADA trade-in but full MSRP on the new CTR.

There are a few HPDE's coming up but I lost interest in driving the Honda after this experience.

We have two other vehicles (Acura TSX & MDX) that we were initially looking to replace with new Honda products but that plan has changed.

Glad you let us know your experience as some may but hopefully don't have to go through your ordeal.

Something up with Honda with their wirings as of late, example the Honda Ridgeline.

So I have a 2017 CTR. I picked mine up new with 12 miles on it. As far as I know my ECU has never been taken out by anyone that has done a service unless they did while doing my turbo harness. It is very easy to remove this ecu just 2 bolts and unclip some wires. Can be done in 3 mins tops. Why am I telling you this. well because after 2 years I decided to go ahead and hondata my car. I took my ecu out and took the cover off and... it had finger prints all over it. So like I said if that is their proof it has been tampered with... apparently as far as I know no ones had mine out and mine had finger prints on it as well. pic is how mine looked out of the cover I myself did not touch it. I tried to wipe the prints off and they would not come off. So Im guessing who ever put them in at the factory needs to where gloves.

I have to add that not all dealers are this way. My local dealer here in Asheville NC is a total jack wagon. denies claims for anything and everything. alwasy blames the customer and so on. Now I went to a dealer in Wilmington NC with mods and with Hondata and they were so... fixed my warranty claims no questions and no problems. Even gave me the advertising for the R and gave me drinks.

The customer experience is a direct reflection on the GM.

The CTR was sold today with ~4,750 miles for $34k. Pretty impressive residual value.

The overheating at Summer HPDE's was annoying but I really enjoyed driving it on smooth, twisty roads. I've always had a soft spot for hot hatches and love the interior space.

It wasn't an easy decision. The final nails in the coffin were potential issues from Honda Corporate's 'flagged' status, rough third-world roads near my home, and (to a lesser extent) my spouse's refusal to drive it due to the polarizing appearance.

I have a few CTR parts to put up for sale soon and then I'll be focusing on my '97 240SX SR20DET. I hope to have it on the market before Chevy stores begin taking deliveries of the C8.
