Heading back from Fontana. It was a great trip. I can't recall the last time I drove that hard (and it probably showed... no commitment to speed in turns when there's other souls with me) but it was a great time. Hoping next year lines up with the kids' spring break again.
Other than maybe sticking with the easy/cruising group rather than trying to stay with that RSX and couple CTRs that took the lead on the skyway in our moderate bunch (and failing pretty miserably at it... but I wasn't trying that hard) it was a pretty nice and relaxing weekend. The dragon was great... (no long straights and the curves are decently sharp). That skyway? Approaching flux capacitor speeds a few times.
If anyone was on the fence this year and let it pass... really consider going next year. Even it it's just once in your life... it's a great experience. I even won a short throw adapter at the banquet (good food, BTW)... so I can always remember Fontana... with every shift once it's in.
A few pictures to share for y'all of the area I put on the Facebook page to entice more folks to attend next year. There was *plenty* of room left for more Civics in the banquet hall/parking lots/roads for more CivicXs and party crashers.
Start of the trip...
Break mid-way for lunch in a random city in north-central GA
...and back on the road
Out in front of our cabin. 2 bedroom 1 bath with a kitchen. Plenty of room if folks want to room with someone and split costs. Plenty of room for our family of 5. Other than sleeping... we we're barely in the room.
So... honestly, the pacing of the weekend was such there was a lot we didn't get to do. I probably should have put it for more leave and stayed an extra day or two to let the pace wind down to do all my slow-stuff. More for next year!
There were a few shops/dives that we didn't make. No trails walked down, though there was a bunch there.
The said there was a game room (oldest wanted to go)... it was, however, closed. It was inside the grill there which, strange coincidence... also was really the only bad experience I had. We ate there twice. About 1/2 the menu was unavailable and to took a *long* time to get food to the point it was cold (45+ minutes both times). Maybe the B crew was on those days... or they were knocking off the rust from the winter, but I'll probably skip it and find places to eat elsewhere
We did manage to play 18 (short) holes. Pool was closed still... and the weather was cool enough, we probably wouldn't have tried it out anyways.
As to all the car stuff... meeting folks... driving back and forth across the dragon at our own pace and seeing all the kids asleep (when I snapped the photo, the boy had opened his eyes)... checking the dam out... it was a very good time.

Remember! There's pictures of our cars driving the Dragon and Skyway on 129photos. I saw a couple that came out OK I'll be getting for myself. If anyone has any pictures (I know someone stuck their head out of a sunroof and snapped of picture of us trying to keep up) I'd love a copy.
Hope everyone else had a good time. If I can make it next year (and I'm going to try) Jenny and I agreed we'd go a day or two earlier to try and get some stuff in from the area and some trails walked.

Just got back home after an amazing weekend at Fontana Dam and Wake the Dragon 2019, and I wanted to say thank you to a few people.
I just bought my 2019 Sport Hatch in February, black, 6 spd MT, all stock (for now), and saw this Wake the Dragon thing. Asked the wife if she wanted to go, she shocked my by saying yes, and away we went on Friday. Got in a wreck on the way to Fontana Dam (my fault, yes, for those who were there, my Civic was the one with the crushed driver's side door and front quarter panel), but arrived without further incident. The room was great, a little dated maybe, but still, for $110 per night? I'm good. Right away started meeting some amazing people...
Zen - thanks for pointing me in the right direction when I arrived.
Brian (staff member Brian, spelled with an "i" and not a "y", the only correct way to spell the name) thanks for the welcome at check-in and being an awesome lead car for the so-called "relaxed" group. That drive was a blast.
Jim and Jean from Ontario - Nice to meet you, thanks for making the 2 day drive, I enjoyed spending time with you, and look forward to keeping in touch.
Brian and Lindsay from St. Louis - Loved your car, enjoyed doing my best to stick to your bumper through the Tail of the Dragon. The only reason others might bsoblu is because they're not driving an Si like yours...
Melissa and Todd from Conyers, GA - Loved that Type R, and really looking forward to a clutch from Competition Clutch. Keep me posted on availability, I'm definitely interested!
Larson and Charlie - enjoyed talking with you at the Dam photo
Mike and son Matthew - Enjoyed talking with you, and I'm glad Matthew got to go on Dad's roller coaster ride through the Tail of the Dragon. Won't be long before he'll be driving... have fun with that!

I was probably one of the "elder statesmen" at almost 55, but I noticed a few others with some gray like me... Men, women, young, old, it didn't matter. We came together, bonded by our love for our cars and for driving, and had a fantastic time. Thank you all, and safe travels everyone!

Definitely a great time.
The fast group was a blast. Definitely the right choice for me. I think others may have regretted the choice though.
To reiterative what others have said, if you were on the fence this year. Plan to go next year. That’s the most fun I’ve had in a long time. 1300 miles later, I don’t regret doubling the number of miles in my car!
