Hey guys, I am sure some of you know us from the 1.5L upgrade we created for your little brother Civic SI's. When we announced it, of course, it was met with some trepidation, but once we finished all our testing, and results, it has come out as one of the favorite turbo upgrades on the platform. Since its release, we have not had a single report of failure or even a single issue. Just happy customer after happy customer with near-stock spool, and 400WHP capability. Well, now it's your turn FK8 brethren! We went back to the lab, and cooked up something very nasty for you guys! This is going to be a lightening fast spooling unit with 550WHP capability in a drop-in package with the best price point on the platform ($1999.00). This was our goal on the 1.5L, and we hit it out of the park. We are confident we will do the same here.

For our testing, this time we are working with @bainstuning who are local to us in San Jose, Gary is going to install the unit on of his existing customer's cars and put it through its paces. Once finished we will be offering a Bains tuning package with the unit, in OTS form on various fuels, or a Custom tune.

As always these units will be assembled, balanced, and shipped in-house via our facility in Hayward Ca, and will come with the VTT Sauce we always bring to the table. We have been building turbos since 1978. It's what we do!

Without any further ado, I will post some info, and features below. Keep in mind the pictures are of our first sample unit. The production turbos will have an Anodized Purple wheel, a nicer fit, and finish. Also not pictured is the 3" silicone coupler that will be included to mate the unit to most any aftermarket intake on the market as we do not suggest running these on a stock intake. We felt leaving the unit with the stock 2-bolt flange was a compromise, so we went with a full 3" inlet for full flow, and no compromises...

Any Feedback Questions are welcome and can be sent to [email protected]

Available via PRE-ORDER. We expect stock Q2/2023 - Pre-Order Available Here

Supported power level

GC Stock-550WHP

Ready to take your FK8 CTR to the next level? Don’t want to deal with core charges, long lead times, or restrictive factory housings? Look no further! VTT has you covered with our 100% new casting “GC” turbocharger upgrade. We start by keeping the great design elements of the factory 2L turbo and removing the not-so-great ones such as the small factory inlet area, bearing housing oil structure, thrust bearing, and anything else we saw that could be improved upon. This is not your basic TD04 CHRA. We completely changed the bearing structure to an 8mm turbine shaft, and journal bearing making it larger than anything in the TD04 MHI family, this truly is a custom unit. We also increased the thrust assembly dramatically to deal with the increased thrust loads. With the basics covered, we stepped it up a level by adding proprietary VTT changes to the housings, A/R Ratios and finished off by having all these parts cast to OE quality. What this means for you is serious 2.0L power made easy; GCs are a drop in turbocharger upgrade that supports up to 550WHP while maintaining very fast spool and all factory connections including oil, water, downpipe, and charge pipe. This turbo is perfect for the FK8 owner looking to max out the factory fuel system and make their CTR more fun to drive with power to redline, as well as the customer looking to add a fuel system and push towards the 550+WHP range. This truly is the unit for everyone. We said the same with our 1.5L SI offering, and have delivered on every promise, due to our no-compromise approach to the upgrade.

Key Design Elements:

  • All new castings with factory restrictions removed. No oversized wheels stuffed into factory housings
  • 310 Stainless Steel Turbine housing for the ultimate in heat, and corrosion resistance
  • 54mm 9-blade Superalloy Mar-M 246 turbine wheel with the latest aero technology for increased flow while maximizing spool
  • 67mm 9-blade “point-milled” compressor wheels with the latest aero technology to maximize flow while virtually eliminating surge
  • Direct connection to ALL factory lines including oil, water, downpipe, and factory charge pipe
  • Reliable Stock-550+WHP support with amazingly fast spool. Same size G25-660 wheel combo we use in many of our BMW Twin Turbo applications making a reliable 1000+WHP with near stock spool levels.
  • Redesigned turbocharger inlet with a FULL FLOWING 3” hose connection. All units come with an adapter to fit most all popular FK8 inlet kits.
  • Redesigned, and improved internal components including bearing housing oiling, upgraded internal bearing structure to 8mm Turbine shaft, Journal Bearings, and redesigned thrust bearing with larger thrust pieces to take extra thrust loads.
  • Enlarged Wastegate bore to help keep back pressure down, and insure precise boost control
  • NO CORE CHARGES. The new unit is sold to you outright. Keep your old unit in case you ever want to go back to stock. Or sell it to recoup your investment -it’s up to you!
  • No long lead times: once fully released production units will be on the shelf for same to next-day shipping (please inquire about stock levels when ordering)
  • Full 12-month unlimited mileage/No Hassle Warranty. If you have an issue, we will replace the unit no questions asked
Turbocharger Purchase includes:

  • 1 – VTT “GC” turbocharger
  • 1 – 3” Silicone inlet adapter
As with any turbocharger upgrade it should be coupled with complimenting upgrades such as fuel system upgrades, intake, downpipe, intercooler, tune, etc. While you will see gains going from stock turbo to a GC with no other changes, this is not recommended. To realize the full potential of the upgrade other parts/tune must be added.

Wow! I'm loving all these newer turbo options coming for the FK8 - seems just in time with the FL5 hitting the streets now.

Whats the ar ratio of the exhaust housing?
For now we like to keep this kind of info proprietary, but it is larger than stock.

Awesome that you guys got into this platform. Question, for those of us living in CA...with an otherwise stock car, would I be able to leave this turbo on the car with a stock tune for smog time? I'm assuming if not beaten on, it would probably be fine correct?

It should pass smog with a stock tune on it, and is stock appearing from the outside

Hey guys! Gary over at Bains got the FK8 unit on their Mustang dyno today. This was done on ACN 91 only and was out of MAF and fuel at this level. The results are EXTREMELY promising, with only a 150RPM difference in spool between a stock turbo, and the GC. With zero hardware changes except for the turbo, and slight tuning changes.

VTT "GC" 385WHP/368WTQ with 320WTQ by 3000RPM
Stock Turbo 330WHP/351WTQ 320WTQ by 2850RPM

Next up will be hardware changes, including a race MAF, and some Fueling upgrades. Gary believes 400WHP on ACN91 will be no problem and much more on E85. This unit should support 500WHP+ with ethanol, and a tune. We will keep everyone up to date on progress!

From Gary:
"Only change between these two runs was the turbo and the tuning. At this point on 91 we are out of Maf and fuel.

We will order a fuel system and bigger maf housing to try and get 400 on 91 and probably 450+ on e30-e40 mix."

Cool to see another aftermarket FK8 turbo being developed. Some quick questions for clarity

1. What does a 100% stock Fk8 dyno here?
2. Im assuming that this fk8 is 100% stock with the exception of the turbo upgrade based on this comment: " With zero hardware changes except for the turbo, and slight tuning changes."
3. If so, did it really do 330whp on a mustang stock? or are these numbers changed to mirror a dynojet/dynapack?

Will be interested to see this turbocharger at full tilt and no restrictions + FBO

The mods are good to know for context, without it, the sentence stating zero hardware changes can be misleading.

This mustang dyno doesnt seem like a heart breaker at all to me, seems pretty spot on in comparison to other dynojet numbers. Again, interested to see this turbo at full tilt.

Thanks for the info.
