VIN # Model Year Question

Are there any overlaps in the way VIN # year codes are assigned? From what I've read so far, the 2017 model year VIN letter is H, which would make 2018 I, and 2019 J. But now on dealer websites, I'm seeing 2019 Type-R VINs with K as the model year code...

10th digit will always indicate the year. I isn't used in vins because it can me misrepresented. for a 1. just like O isn't used only 0. It goes from H, to J to K. I is omitted.
