It is most definitely in 95% of cases the throw out bearing in combination with the dual mass flywheel bopping it around at ignition cut off from the back compression of the engine. The play between the throw-out bearing race and input shaft bearing is not perfect either which makes room for the rattle noise from the engine vibrations during shutoff.

The other 5% of cases are input shaft bearing on transmission gone bad depending on how severe the noise is.

I wouldn't even worry about the noise on shutoff.
This is extremely common on 350z and BMWs, specifically z4s and we just ignore it.

Also I have 120k miles stock clutch/everything on my 05 z4 3.0i and it's been making the rattle/noise on shutdown since day1.

I noticed it too. Sounds like something is loose and there is metal on metal contact due to vibrations maybe?

Like i said earlier, that's some painfully janky work I'd be upset if I got my car back like that.. I'd take it to another shop and have them redo it.

Yeah on my 98 Civic I bought the glasspack and muffler and had the pipe custom bent and welded from the cat-back at Midas. It was a very well done job! Never had any issues with exhaust leaks, hangers, rattles, etc. The welds were clean and the bends were smooth. It cost $170 in parts/labor plus the glasspack and muffler.

I took the mufflers out and it sounds much better then that. Not to be a hater but I agree it does look like a 2 year old welded all that together.

I'd venture to say that the factory exhaust is not all that restrictive until you add 40-50%. At least that's what the data suggests to date.

I hate to be stickler, but the work looks pretty rough. I'd have kept it stock or just done a delete, it sounds better IMO.
Delete sounds awful to me. Muffler at least adds some sort of tone. May look rough, but sounds amazing.

Something's not right... There's a rattle when the engine stops, at 0:40 in the video.
heard that in the video to, but haven't heard it since.

I stopped by an exhaust shop I know that told me that a center mount muffler wasn't a good idea, due to the fact that there is no heat shield in the center, and that the muffler would hang a lot lower. Have you had any issue with that, since install?
