I was only able to order 4 and then I couldn’t find anymore. But I buy the Hamp filters now. Filtech made the A01’s and they changed their name to Hamp. So now I order the Hamp H1540-RTA-515 filters. They are the same exact filter made by the same company.
oh hell yeah. Didn’t realize Hamp was filtech. Glad to hear it, I thought the A01 was forever lost

I just did a quick search and seems like the Hamp filters are hard to find to. I bought a pack of 10 a year ago. Just make sure you get the H1540-RTA-515 or H1540-RTA-505. They are both made by Hamp (Filtech) but the 505 is green and the new 515 is blue. Here are some pics of mine comparing the A01 to 515. Left is A01 and right is 515

Just don’t order the H1540-PLC-505. Those are made in Japan. They are not the same as the H1540-RTA-505 which are made in the USA by Filtech

This issue doesn't define Honda's quality or lack thereof...

Keep using your quality synthetics, whether Honda or another brand. Get the gasket replaced under warranty and keep an eye on it moving forward. No need to overthink it.
It just doesn’t make any sense. I’ve never even heard of any vehicle leaking oil within the first 10k miles. Honda is known for reliability and quality. Faulty gasket? Really? It’s a gasket, what could be faulty from a gasket? It might even be a liquid gasket. It had to have been weakened somehow. But yes the best route is letting Honda fix it and hope it don’t come back. If it does then I would try something else. I would be very upset if my brand new car was leaking oil under 10k miles. Honda is definitely the last company that I would think would have an issue like that.

side note, where do you get the A01 filters? Or did you stock up a few years back before they were discontinued?
hey just to let you know, you can still find A01 filters online. After talking to you it reminded me I needed to order some more. I found 10 more. I ordered 5 from two separate sellers. Ended up paying 80 bucks for 10 total. Now I got enough stocked up to last until both my civics hit 100k miles each. They are there, you just got to hunt them down. Here are five I found on eBay

And is it just the type R having this issue?
so far that seems to be the case, I’m hoping more type r owners will see this thread and take a couple seconds to check this area on their engine and see if they have this problem

Last time I really took a close look at the intake manifold was when I upgraded my charge pipe, plus when i was checking out how the fuel pump is routed.

I'll have to check when I get home as I haven't been driving it to work lately.

I really don't want to take this into a stealership and have them work on it.
Update: checked when I got home to it that day. No signs of oil or any residue on the head at the intake ports. Or anywhere else inside the engine bay.

I've been using Amsoil signature series 0w-20. The car has just over 22,000 miles on it. I've started using Amsoil's filters more recently too. Pretty expensive to change my own oil lol

My first five just came in. My second five show they’ll be here Monday. So they are still out there. They just seem to get harder and harder to find.

Just got back from dealer for valve gasket replacement. Now car has a "burning rubber smell". haha. And of course car never had any "engine smell" before. Gonna investigate later tonight once engine cools off.
