Should we torque it to spec? And do you know what the torque spec is?
I searched and did not find the Honda specs but there are torque charts online and it is relevant to the bolt head size. I would just do it by hand to at least see if they felt loose but I was a technician for years and have developed a knowledge of what it should feel like.

I finally got around to taking my CTR in to the dealership last night. Found out today that the valve cover is cracked and the new one will be installed tomorrow. I'll update this thread with a copy of the repair invoice tomorrow evening.

Mmmhmm I am validated. Remember I said it:

Oh please these are new cars. If they were warping over years of use maybe but there's little chance they are warping new. I used to change a lot of valve cover gaskets in the days of steal or aluminum valve covers as this is not a new phenomenon. It's a matter of the valve covers not being torqued properly in the right pattern or imperfections in the gasket, not enough RTV, etc.

My reply:
Plastic warps with heat and can also crack. It is not car nor part specific and yes it may take time.

I got the car back today and they replaced the valve cover. It probably was faulty from the factory. Here's the repair invoice :

Dropped car off yesterday at Planet Honda in Union, New Jersey at 1:00 o’clock. I told them that it is leaking oil from the firewall side of the valve cover and to check if the valve cover is cracked. They called me back and said that the valve cover is fine but the gasket needs to be replaced. They mentioned that they see this often and have the gasket in stock. The car was ready the same day. I will update to see if the car develops a oil leak again

Leaking oil again. I think its leaking from a crack on the top of the valve cover. Bring back metal valve covers.

Mine hasn't leaked any oil after they replaced my valve cover. I agree though - we need metal covers :)

Take a look at the quality service work at Planet Honda in Union, NJ. All the cover bolts were loose. Battery negative was loose. The wiring was routed wrong. Rubber hose was broken. Bolts were loose attaching the steel vacuum lines. Had to go back to redo. No wonder people don’t trust dealerships

6k miles. Tightened it down but got it again at 12k. Think they’ll try and blame my catch can? This was before I even installed a catch can so it’s not that

Just take it in to the dealership that you trust. I had a catch can on the car and removed it before bringing it in. Simple gasket replacement. Good luck

Damn. After reading this post I went and looked at my engine. Same issue on mine. Small oil collection on the driver rear side of valve cover. I took photos and cleaned area. Will watch.

I have '19 CTR.

Just crazy b/c I would not have looked if I hadn't read this post. Curious how much oil has leaked in total. And now with Covid-19 - I think the earliest appt is in 4 weeks at my dealership. Gonna call tomorrow to confirm wait time.
