If a dealer told me with a straight face that they were marking up the Si by $3k, I'd laugh right in the guy's face and drive to another dealership.
I would do no different than you.

Absolutely. I never really understood this whole markup thing. I am worried they my try to pull this with the Type R though. Luckily, I do have a lot of Honda dealers around me
I work for a dealer in the LA region that focuses on high gross rather than high volume. Sadly, there are buyers who are unaware of what they're paying for or just poorly educated. 1/3 Si buyers will pay the mark up.

I have seen someone pay $540/month w/ $1000 down for 72 months on a civic LX. $10,000 down with $465/60 months on Civic EX. Loans exceeding 20% APR. This industry disappoints and my short stint will end soon enough ^_^

My guess is that Type R's will only make up 2-3% of overall Civic production and possibly less than that.

1% or less is probably more likely. If they make 300,000 units, that's 3,000 or less Type R models.

I thought I remember seeing some Honda bigwig saying they hope to sell up to 2,000 a month, but I think that was worldwide production and distribution. We do know Japan is only getting 750 the first year. Honestly, maybe the first 3-6 months that number might be close to.accurate. But I also doubt they'll be putting that much resource into making that many from the get go. Also, we don't know how long Honda will sell the typeR. 2 years tops? I'm thinking 6000 total max for a 2-3 year run. unless they sell it for $35k USD and they're not sitting on lots, then maybe a 10-12k production over 2-3 years should they sell as soon as they hit lots. If price is closer to $40k or more 5000 max and some will collect dust on lots and have more than 100 miles from all the test drives. But then again, I've also seen 2,500 for first production year for the USA. Who knows? I'm waiting on my Honda salesman to call me. I have low expectations as this is a low volume dealer and they basically sell at MSRP but also give excellent service and no run arounds like big volume dealers. I didn't even negotiate last time for my '14 si. They said if my credit score was what I said it was they'd sell at MSRP @ 0.9% and I got a few freebies.

VW has no issues selling Golf R's. They are sold before they get off the truck.

I think Honda will have no trouble for first year sales. Interesting to see how sales do over the years

If they don't limit us to a single year run! But I highly doubt that..

I'm assuming 1 per month like the Pilot Elite for busy dealerships. Most dealerships will likely not see a Type R if they have a horrible past of not being able to move Civic Si's
