TSP Block Build Begins

This littel number arrived today and magically all the other parts I ordered weeks ago. Like Christmas up in this piece!
This new journey begins as soon as the head comes back!

Well…. The pre-mock-up is going well.
Trans is painted and reassembled.

Waited a few weeks for new bolts and gaskets which are still coming in.

Head returned from the machine shop yesterday.

Gonna start putting it together again, loosely, to make sure everything is still there.

The shop said they took almost the bare minimum amount of material off the head as it was mostly perfect.
I was not going to dump another $1,000 into porting and polishing the intake as these are DI motors. It has been proven that is not a good return on investment with these motors.
And not for nothing….. the intake ports are already amazingly smooth from the factory. The castings were pretty damn good!

Hunts Machining in Schenectady.
Pretty much most any machine shop can do this type of work. Are they all great at it? Probably not.
Hunts is pretty well known for engine building. It was however, an expense I did not see coming. I replaced all the valves and had them do their head build. It was an additional $1,000. Luckily I had it as an overage fund for this type of thing.

Ah, yeah but im slowly learning there are actually a few engine-building specific shops around upstate that do some crazy quality work so I was curious. I have a fund I could use if it happened like you out of nowhere, but really that's money I am hoping I don't have to spend until I am ready. Regardless if nothing breaks before then when I start doing a lot of track driving I know SOMETHING is gonna go with where I am at lol. Cant wait to see your block when its done!

Oh I agree, there are some specific shops for exactly that. I used my own gap tools and plane bar to check theirs and they did me well.
Yeah there was about $1,500 in parts and extras that I sorta planned for. I decided to replace any bad looking bolt and all the gaskets. Took a lot of homework to dig them up and get them ordered due to shortages and such.
I am going to get the head locked down this week and then likely paint the block. That’s gonna be time consuming.!

Nice bro! I’m most interested in pulling and dissembling of the old motor I’ve only ever worked on d series a lot of the stuff on the L series is so foreign to me if u can also document the dissemble and pulling of the old motor that would be most helpful
