I’m really happy with the responsiveness and the stance of the car now.
on the test drive it seemed to not even notice the corners.
The ride is still comfy. Firmer but not harsh. It needed stiffer springs cause it felt like a Buick before.
i have 15k miles on the car. So down the road I’ll upgrade the shocks and struts.

A friend and I went out for a spirited drive today. So I gave her a bath.

Quick project today. Cleaned
, masked and painted the interior of the tailpipe. I used VHT engine paint. Then I played with the neighborhood cat.

Today I installed a oil catch can (pcv side).
I got a Amazon one. But it’s all aluminum. My plan was to modify it anyway.

it uses corse steel wool as a filter and is srevive able. I added mesh to the intake side to make sure I don’t get pieces of it in to the intake. I don’t trust the wool yet. The instructions want the valve cover side to first come throu the filter then into a empty can. I feel like it’s not adequate. So I reversed the flow and added a tube and stuffed that with steel wool.

It pops in the hole. I used a 6x1.0 bolt to plug the dipstick.

I mounted it off the core support. I didn’t likeanywhere near the intake. I used vinyl hose at first to watch for oil. But soon realized it collapses after getting warm. I switched to 3/8” fuel hose.
I wrapped the can in gold reflective tape to help, it’s close enough to the cat to get hot, I don’t want it boiling the oil that accumulates.

trick for getting the old crush gasket out. This was the most difficult part of the job. And that wasn’t that bad.

I still think there is power to made in porting these heads. Someday I’ll find out.

all mounted up. So much more room.
I did get oil accumulation in the catch can, verifies it does work. In less than 1000 miles, I accumulated about a teaspoon. That’s a teaspoon less down the intake. I’m happy and a little concerned about the blow by, but I have been driving it pretty hard.

How does your car feel after the downpipe install?

It’s more spunky in mid range. The sound is great with stock exhaust and tune. I’m at 3500 ft elevation so power is deceiving. Someday I’ll get down to sea level and see how it runs. But I’m happy with it.

I’ve been researching fuel trims for a while now and trying to understand Ktuner. While my long term fuel trims generally add fuel, it’s not by much (+3-4). But if I have the ability to fine tune, I’ll spend the time.
even before the downpipe I had lean fuel condition. I’m at 3500 ft elevation. So my thinking is when I go to the coast the fuel will be too lean.
I want to have it a touch rich in not perfect at elevation. And it will still be good at sea level.
I ajusted the fuel trim a tiny bit, to try just little changes at a time. I didn’t get too far before I hit a good spot it think.

The high lighted area I richened the fuel. This should be around vtec engagement. It seems to have richened above 4K. All I did was drop the highlighted area down one-tenth of a point.
At 4K now, when the cam Timing is full advanced, lots of valve overlap, the car pulls more stronger than before.
The long term stays right at O and the short term, bounces around O but at higher rpm it’s really close to O.

I’ll continue to monitor and might play with it more. It like to find a spot where I’m really happy with it before I spend money on a dyno.

I've been curious about people hand-tuning their C2s!! Loving your build so far man. Do be careful self-tuning, but if you know what you're doing hats off to you.

KTuner update has a option to change the vtec engagement point. I’ve set it to 5k. Not that it hit hard before but now you can still tell the change, but it feels like the power doesn’t drop off just before vtec. I’d rather have a nice smooth transition that a uneven power curve.

Update. I mounted a a prototype lip I made. I’m not a fan of the wannabe splitter things that just stick out. and the aftermarket stuff for the tenth gen is pretty not my cup o tea. I had a aftermarket “splitter” that I immediately took off.
I just wanted a simple air dam.
I made one out of lexan and painted the backside black. It’s still ruffed In but I’ll continue to built it. I really wanted to see the concept on the car first.

I'm curious about the head porting. I'm thinking about doing that to mine next winter, assuming I have my 97 Grand Cherokee running. I live in Crestline, CA so we get snow here(not much this year), but I figure I can daily the gas guzzler and play in the snow while the head gets ported. Maybe look into regrinding the cams too.
