Hello all,
I recently swapped transmission fluid from OEM to (2) Quarts of Amsoil Synchromesh. Just realized it’s calling for another 0.3 quarts or so. Jacked the car up to add this amount through the fluid level check bolt and am having trouble locating it.

Does anyone know if there is one? If so where is it located please? I’ve looked everywhere underneath and don’t see it.

Please help otherwise will have to pull the airbox to add 0.3 through the normal fill and won’t know if it’s topped off or not.

Thank you

Unless it’s this black plastic cover held on by a small bolt?

Awesome thank you Tim818 so it is this one :)

May I ask where I can find the information you posted? Or other CTR Service information? I missed out on the (6) month window for the printed copy new owner manual (didn’t know)

so let me get this straight,

you changed your MTF and never bothered to check the level of it when you were done?

how long did you drive it for low on fluid?

Yes that’s correct...Just changed it this past weekend and put (2) quarts after reading it somewhere on the forums.. Fortunately I’ve been driving my 95 Accord this week.

Lesson learned for me. New to DIY. Drove maybe 20 miles. Hopefully this info will be useful for someone else changing theirs. Gonna top it off now :)

No need to be hard on the guy, he made a mistake and is fixing it. Props to OP for diving in and doing the job himself. Driving with .3 quart low on fluid is not going to hurt anything.

Stopped by local (SoCal) Honda dealer and they didn’t have the 6mm crush washers in stock. Ordered a couple they will have tomorrow.

Started the car and got it up to normal operating temperature then shut it off.

The side check bolt 10mm wasn’t very tight to remove.

The squirt tube is a perfect fit for the side check opening to refill. It also has a smaller tip extension and I switched to that towards the end. There are similar ones for sale on Amazon.

Topped off the transmission fluid until it started to drain back out (like I was supposed to do the first time *bonk*)

Reinstalled the check bolt and pretty certain the original gasket has crush remaining... so decided to re-use it for now. The drain and fill plugs were reinstalled with new crush washers.

This is the amount that went in. I’d estimate about 0.1 L. Was expecting to use the entire 0.3L but that was it. I might try topping it off again in a few days to make sure.

The plastic tip extension is pictured.

Would it be safe to remove to inspect the filter/strainer with the transmission fluid drained, before refilling? Is this an obscure maintenance task, to check this filter once in awhile?

Btw dont ever pull off that black plastic cover being held by a 10mm bolt with oil inside the trans! Ask me how I know lol it's a cover and has a filter inside for the trans . Cleaning up the garage floor was not fun.

Yea once its empty you can undo the 10mm bolt and wiggle that plug /cap off . Becareful its spring loaded. Then you can reach with 2 fingers lol nice and easy and itll come out . Mine had a few tiny metal flakes due to a few 2nd gear grinds that's why I replaced the trans fluid.

Do you need to replace the o-ring everytime you removed it?

Hi Bonong96,

Here is a step by step photowalkthrough that will also help.

Yes there is an o-ring. Part# 91307-PR8-005

Can get them through Honda Parts Now or through your dealer.

It’s a good maintenance practice to replace the o-ring each time it’s disturbed.

in reality, could probably reuse if needed to, provided the o-ring isn’t cut or hard and brittle.... but it’s cheap insurance to just install a new one. When doing so, apply a small film of transmission fluid to the o ring so it doesn’t dry out before applying ;)

Do you need to replace the o-ring everytime you removed it?

How are you guys reaching the check bolt with the car level? I’ve had an integra and rsx in the past and was able to reach from the wheel well, so I could just remove the wheel and use a jack and lower the car to ride height and not be under the car.
