I’m thinking about trading in my 2018 Civic Hatch CVT (2,000 miles) for a brand new 2018 Si Sedan. Thoughts? Is it worth the dealer rape?

Si : $23,400
Trade: $18,700

No unless you spare cash to throw away

Is the 2019 worth waiting for? I was thinking I could beat up the dealer on the 2018. The price above was what they gave me over the phone.

I’m hoping to get the 2018 Si for $22,500 and get my CVT trade up to $19,000

There's no Info on what's the changes on the Si. So it might be worth waiting to see what the 2019 Si will come with

Yes.
1. Manual > CVT
2. Si will hold it's value a little better
3. As you stated, you can get the 2018 Si for $2,000 under MSRP
4. If the dealer won't give you the trade value you want, maybe try Carvana.
5. Hatch may be better design, but everything else on Si seems to be "better" --> except maybe the cloth material...

Yes, I have the Si Coupe for weekends and fun days and have the CVT hatch for everyday driving and the utility of a hatch but I’m finding that I drive the Si so much more. When I do take the CVT, I find myself thinking of the Si.

My son’s car (2006 TSX) was recently totaled after an electrical fire in the trunk area so he will be driving my Si coupe. This is why I’m thinking about trading in my CVT Hatch for the Si Sedan.

well you know what an Si is and how much better it is than a CVT so really your decision is a financial one, and only you can decide if the negative equity is worth it

This is kind of a no brainer for me. I would give the CVT hatch to your son to drive and you drive the SI. If you need the extra hauling capacity of the hatch, you can trade cars for the day. No extra costs involved and he will be very happy he is getting a car to replace the toasted TSX.

I don't get it. YOu already have an SI so you know what the differences are.
So basically you are asking the forum members to help you make a financial a decision for you?
In that case, tell us how much you make, 401K, other investments and how much total debt you have. :dunno:

Edit: or you wanting to know if the dealer"rape" is appropriate for trading a 2018 for another 2018?

The Si also has the LSD trans which puts the power down much better.

Just looking for feedback, not necessarily the way you framed it.

True and I already thought of this but I don’t want a coupe for an everyday driver and my son really wants an Si. In addition, I thought it would beneficial to trade in the CVT while it still has low miles on it and I think a sedan Si is better suited for me. I think after all said and done I will loose $1400 out of pocket for this move. Still on the fence though. Thanks for the feedback

Do what makes you happy. Probably can talk dealership down on price at the end of month. I personally wouldn't do it but I wanted a hatch over a sedan form.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me, especially if you can nudge the numbers closer together. And I like your logic, trading a relatively new CVT for a soon to be "late" model Si.

And of course you want the Si, that's why you asked!
