Hi,

I'm in Toronto
When i remote start my Civic Touring first thing in morning the engine cuts out after 20 seconds. The car is outdoors all night.
Rest of day seems to be fine and runs for full 10 minutes
This is a first thing in morning issue (it seems) when I need it most to warm up engines/turbo before driving
What also happens is after 2 attempts of remote starting, the remote starter does not work at all

Took it into Honda they ran diagnostics, but said all is functioning normally
I filmed the issue to show them and now they want it left overnight

Anyone else had this issue?
Any help GREATLY appreciated
Thanks!!

How cold is it at night? The remote start may kill the engine if battery voltage falls too low, and if the battery is marginal it might be dropping low enough only when really cold from the night.

If a study I saw a couple years ago is to be believed, batteries are the number one failing part on new cars.

Never assume something hasn't failed because its new.

Did you take it in?
Did it only happen outdoors in cold? Honda ran diagnostics and said all was good. Wouldnt listen that it's an early morning issue.

I didn't take it in, but now I manually start the car 100% of the time now. I believe the cold mornings and small battery are the causes.

I couldn't believe a modern car with all these electronics would come with such a small battery and its not AGM.

What is honda thinking? My old 1996 civic had the same size lead acid battery and it had barely any electronics. I'm definitely replacing the battery with a high end AGM whenever it gives a hint of trouble.

Thanks, makes perfect sense .
Seems to work fine once car started......
Just wonder why battery cuts car at exactly 20 seconds, why not sooner, or why not let it run once started
Amazing that Honda doesn't know this

If you put your foot on the break to switch gears it shuts off. Don’t know how they stole the last one this way

OP, doesn't matter how new the battery is, it's usually the #1 causal. Honda put in a weak battery for our cars so the new-ness factor might not be valid.

Do we really want to be idling these engines longer than necessary? Seems like we have enough oil dilution threads on this forum.

From what I can make out they captured the signal from the fob. Seems even Honda recognises this as a weakness. Canada has had an increase in car thefts
