Hey 10th gen pals. I’ve been at it again with another set of stock headlights. I straight traded my donor set of sequential signal headlights to a guy in town for his stock LED set from his SI. It was a pretty sweet deal. That’s all I was looking for to be able to upgrade another set. I loved the way my sequential signal/ DRL upgrade looked but the oem drl just isn’t good enough. So call me crazy I had to go back at it.

I’m not done yet but have the top half done.

The top is basically the same as the first just more wiring and different leds. It’s the oem drl that I’m trying to focus on this time around. The oem drl is a optic rod that carries the light from the bottom led across the light. That’s why it’s not inform or bright enough.

Here are more pictures. Of what I’m trying to do.

A couple more shots. Progress has been slow but the majority of the mods are complete. It’s just assembly and wiring now.

Here’s a mock-up. What do you think of the visible leds? Do they look ok?

Thats pretty neat! Personally I'd prefer not to have the LEDs visible. you should do something like converting the tailights into full LEDs, I think that would be pretty cool.

The tail lights were a plan but they are very hard to take apart

New view with covered led. It’s the opposite side but the leds are hidden. Not as noticeable that it’s been modded.

Final test. Time to bake these cookies back together.

Am I crazy for doing this? These can be programmed for any turn sequence any startup animation and any show mode dreamt up.

Yes, but it looks pretty fricken' cool!!

How did you get the headlight apart? I have a couple of LED headlights that were damaged in a collision, both had broken mounting brackets and one had a cracked lens. I took one apart to tinker with it and even though the lens had clips and looked liked it could be removed easily, it also appeared to be glued or ultrasonic welded as well, I couldn't get it apart without destroying the lens and encasement.

I had to heat it to close to 100c. It has 5 screws in the back or each headlight and a bunch of clips. I had to use guitar like picks to pry back each clip at the same time once it was hot and just start pulling. 300f and about 7 minutes in the oven watching like a hawk with my infrared thermometer.

Do you want to sell the ones you have. As long as all the parts are there I have a Chinese source for lenses and casings. Did you destroy any of the parts that are attached to the inside of the lens?

The one I didn't take apart is fully working.

For the one that I took apart, the turn signal, low beam, and high beam works. I don't think the DRL works (the control board had some slight damage but looked like it could be repaired).

Yeah, I would consider selling them. I was thinking of making a funky lamp or work light out of them, but the beam pattern sucks for that purpose.

Finally found the time to rip my clip off and install this mod. Quite happy with the results.

Nice work, though, I think a conventional sequential animation would work better for the signals where the whole bar builds as it grows to the outside. It looks more like the light is glitching out and not signalling.
