Why are tire shops and websites telling people that 225 width tires are recommended on Civics with OEM 18” wheels when Honda makes it pretty clear that 235/40R18 is the intended size?

Strange, I've seen a few go 245 as well for a bit more rubber and they fit fine

I've never even heard of Belle Tire lol
Theyre popping up all over the midwest. Headquartered in Detroit. I’ve been impressed with them.

Any tire shop that recognizes that I know my shit and doesn’t give me any bullshit in the process is okay with me.

I still don’t trust them to actually touch my car. I bring my wheels to them to have tires mounted and then put them on myself.

In reality there isn’t much difference to the diameter of 225, 235, 245. The stock goodyears had a thick sidewall design with built in wheel protection, which made the fitment look much better.

235 is flush with the wheel, 225 would look a little stretched, 245 would give you a little bit of bulge.

Pretty easy to tell that they are associating your car with a 9th Gen. Go up a year or two, and see if the recommendation changes.
