Tire Noise 16" to 19" Feedback

Tire noise has been my biggest issue so far with my 2016 Coupe. Just a little feedback, since a few people have been getting caught out with purchasing loud tires, including me


Stock: 16" Firestone FT140

- Very Loud from new

- Continental 16" Pure Contact much quiter.

- Michelins 16" X-ice 3 I would say is much quieter than the FT140, but a little louder than the Pure Contact

Aftermarket: 245/40/18 Dunlop DZ102 vs 245/40/18 Toyo Proxes 4s

- DZ102 tons of grip, ride is good, but LOUD

- Louder than the 16" FT140

- Proxes, less grip but expected as they are not in the same class. Slightly comfortable than the DZ102, and I would say 30% quieter than the DZ102.

- Proxies quieter than FT140, and about as loud as the X-Ice 3...maaaybe slightly quieter than the X-ice 3

- Proxes was on a 5 series, now the 5 series now has 19" Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (245/40/19 and 275/35/19) and are much quieter than the Toyo.

Hope this helps other from picking a super loud tire. Down the road I will swap to the PS4s as well.

I got the Hankook Kinergy 16 inch, 215-55 and no complaints the first 600 miles and haven't had TMPS tell me anything. They are comfortable and seem to stick well. I just don't think they are long-lasting but shrug.

My stock tires were Continental ProContact TX. (215/50/17) Have you been in a civic with those to compare? I don't think they're too loud.

Pilot Super Sports are generally a safe bet when it comes to grip and overall comfort if not also sound. I'm not sure the newer PS4's come in a lot of sizes under 19's, but I could be confusing that with another michelin tire. Not really sure if they're a good hpde or autoX tire, but I can't imagine one would need more than that for street driving. I recall the regular Super Sports were on sale at Tirerack, at least with the 275/18 size, but worth a look anyways.

As far as tire noise goes, the only tire I found too noisy has been the dunlop direzza z1 and z2 star specs. My ears probably don't work that great, but I found the Bridgestone RE-11's, an older tech tech summer tire, to be a really good compromise between grip, wear (got a few track days out of mine), and overall comfort.
