Think I ordered the wrong size tire

I've read plenty but still think I messed up.

My new wheels are 18x8 38mm offset. I ordered 215/45's. Should I have went with 225/40's? I was trying to stay as close to stock readings and ride quality as possible but wont the tire be stretched? I can cancel and reorder tomorrow but I need some input. Most important factor is not messing with speedo and durability.

Have you looked at Fred's Modern Steel in the garage section? He has 18x8 w/215/45's. That will show if there's too much stretch for you. If you like his you're good. Closest to stock readings is going to be 235/40. Next is 215/45. Next is 225/40. I'm not sure what you mean by durability. Tire durability? Tread wear?

You're fine - 215/45's on an 8" rim is not stretched, or only very mildly.

These are 215/45's on 8.5" on my old, and even those are still a mild stretch.

By durability I was wodering if the long term integrity of the tire being stretched a little too much would be comprimised or accelerated tread wear. So 235/40 will be closest to stock readings on 18x8? What percent off will that be?

Where did you get these numbers btw? All the sites I go to for tires recommend 225/40 or 215/45 for an 18x8 wheel. None of them suggest 235.

I havent looked at 235's. I got 215/45 for $145 conti dws06. I think im just going to stick with this size. Everything will look the same as stock just an inch bigger.

Wish i could find a source to those speedo numbers (no offense hal). Tire rack does point me to 215/45 when i select my wheel and other sites point me to 225/40. If i stick with 215/45 at least i know the ride quality will improve with the same sidewall and much better tires yes?

215 40 goodyear for 940$; Michelin $865

If I go with goodyear...its at a shop my uncle works for and he will do the install...meaning a careful clean install.

What would you do?

If were to get any 215 it would be in a 45 sidewall. 215/40 doesn't seem right to me.

I'd say pick between 215/45 and 225/40. The 215 should be a little less rough but the 225 should feel more planted. If these are just warm weather tires go with Michelin or conti dws. I am riding these all year round with the new wheels so I went dws06 as they have a good rating in light snow.
