I hear a lot of people saying how weak our CVT's are. And sure, you can't go too crazy on the low end torque but the transmission is better/sturdier than many say it is.

Here a link to KTuner's original testing of their 1.5T CVT. It's a good read and very appropriate for this thread:

Vehicle: 2019 Civic si

Total tuned time: Two Years

Tuned miles driven: 20000 Plus kilometres

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V2

Tunes used: Starter 19.5/23 with adjustments, TSP STAGE 1, Current Base Map for W1 Turbo

Fuel used: Shell 91/Esso 91

Additional engine mods: PRL Cobra CAI street and Race Maf, MaPerformance Catback, 27Won Catless Dp and Fp, 27Won Intercooler and charge pipes, 27Won inlet pipe, 27Won W1

Problems/issues: Occasional CEL from the downpipe but I've been to lazy to disable the sensor.

Driving style: Definitely gotten more aggressive since I've added more bolt ons but am still somewhat passive, I like the sound my car makes when I put my foot down.

Tuning experience notes: My first time tuning and I love it. The difference between stock, the base maps and now TSP stage 1 is incredible and makes the experience so awsome. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

(Updated)

Vehicle: 2019 Civic Type R

Total tuned time: 9 months

Total tuned mileage: 40,000 (50,000)

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V1.2 (switching
to hondata due to lack of vehicle support soon)

Tunes used: multi stage 1, stage 1, stage 1.1, and now stage 1 with downpipe

Fuel used: 93 shell, sunoco, exxon

Additional engine mods: K&N intake, fkx catless downpipe. (Hks intercooler with fuel pump coming very soon)

Problems/issues: None so far

Driving style: highway cruising, mountain runs pushed hard.

It's interesting how KTuner is the go to tuning device for everything but the Type R.

Hondata originally was considered pretty much equal to KTuner for the 10th gen. Once the Type R was released, it seemed like they sort of abandoned development of the non-Type R tunes and features.

I love ktuner on my 18 Si. And I stayed loyal for over a year with no development happening for the R. But now I'm tired of waiting and its time to move on to the superior company.
Oh I forgot the tuned time 1 year and 3 months.

Total tuned time: From Day 1 before deliver @ 50km/31

Tuned miles driven: 7015km/4359mi (4 months into ownership)

Tuning device(s) used: Ktuner V2

Tunes used: Custom tune @ 21PSI

Fuel used: 94 Octane

Additional engine mods: 27WON RACE TIP/CAI/DP/FMIC/FSTB/RMM, Koyo Rad, HKS Super SQV4 Vent to Atmosphere, Competition Stage 2, AMG brake fluid, Mobil 1 oil (because fluid counts right? LOL)

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: Speedy? I do +15-20km/9-12mi over limit LOL

Tuning experience notes: First time getting it properly tune (prev vehicles I was running basemap). I don't have issues so far to date. I did had electrical problems in regards to my HST radar but that had nothing to do with tuning.

I'll add pictures when I have more to show off LOL. Too basic like everyone else

Speedy? Around my way, 85 year old grandmothers are doing 20 mph over the limit. You need a tune just to survive around here. lol

LOL. Limit in my area is 50km/31mi for residential, 80km/50mi main road, 100km/62mi highway. Honestly it's so slow, Canadian laws

Vehicle: 2020 Honda civic Type R

Total tuned time: 1 month

Tuned miles driven: 5k

Tuning device(s) used: Hondata Flashpro, currently using KTuner V2

Tunes used: 1)Hondata 91 basemap Improved throttle with dampening on 1st and 2nd, with TC
2)Hondata 91 basemap Improved throttle full power without TC
3)Ktuner v2 Stage 1.1 by Drob

Fuel used: Canadian 91 Shell V-power

Additional engine mods: K&N drop in filter

Problems/issues: Slightly more misfire on all the tunes compare to stock, but very minimal, and very much in the normal range

Driving style: mostly normal, time to time spirited driving and cornering. Rarely WOT, and mostly for logging purpose.

Tuning experience notes: I had TSP stage 1 on my previous Si, and I loved that tune, how it just changed the car completely. Hondata flash pro was great with its flexibility and all the mods, and it's definitely better than Stock with noticeable difference especially on 3rd gear pull. Now, with the car still very much stock, I probably stick with Drob's stage 1.1 for now. It reminds me of the TSP stage 1 I had with very good and linear power delivery to the red line, and even more noticeable power bump along the rpm range. The stock FK8 is good when the car started rolling, but I like how the tune made the car much punchier and more responsive in all 3 modes.

Vehicle: 2019 SI sedan

Total tuned time: tuned Christmas 2020 at 25k miles

Tuned miles driven: approx 1k

Tuning device(s) used: tuner v1.2

Tunes used: TSP stage 1, currently on stop/21 base map

Fuel used: 91 (highest available in my area)

Additional engine mods:
Prl SRI
currently waiting on competition clutch, kzcmc to be delivered

Problems/issues:
clutch slipped on first wot pull in 3rd gear on map 3 about 3 days into tune. No issues beforehand. I’ve switched to a base map until I can get my clutch installed

Driving style:
conservative with some spirited driving mixed in. Averaging 32mpg most tanks with mixed driving

Tuning experience notes:
the initial setup was daunting the first time I loaded ktuner on my laptop, but it turned into an easy to use interface

**UPDATE**
Vehicle: 2020 Civic Si Sedan

Total tuned time: 3 months

Total tuned mileage: 3,000 miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V1.2

Tunes used: Phearable 1.5

Fuel used: Mobil 93

Additional engine mods: Bone stock

Problems/issues: Nothing I can relate to tuning thus far. Just have this nagging shifting issue.

Driving style: Conservative mostly. 99% of the time, MAP 1

Tuning experience notes: Tune has really awoken the car. I have a fairly straight forward commute, 20 miles down a Florida highway, not expressway. Getting really good gas mileage, but I can't comment if that was from the tune or not (Tuned at 600 miles). On my normal commute I can get 40+MPG, the tank averages out to ~38MPG.
I purchased ktuner mostly to rid the rev-hang. It helps but I'm not going to abuse the car until I can get a better clutch. There's a lot more potential in the SI, but being my daily, I don't have performance goals in mind. I want to get to work, but I want to get work alive.

Tunes used: Phearable Stage 1.5

Fuel used: 93

Additional mods: PRL Race CAI, AWE Catback, PRL Catted downpipe

Problems/issues: None, fuel trims a little funky when idling too long, but they always fix right up.

Driving style: Spirited driving, the occasional pulls. Have tracked the car twice.

Tuning experience notes: Tuning was incredibly simple to do as someone who had never done it before.

Additional engine mods: FBO. Please refer to build thread for the full list. https://www.civicx.com/forum/threads/lusts-fk8-civic-type-r-track-street-build.38199/

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: Daily driver with some spirited driving. Weekend track warrior.

Tuning experience notes: Tuning with DRob has been excellent. The car has a significant amount of power throughout the entire power band. Will be refining the tune for cold/hot weather in the future. Most recent track day showed that the car was performing phenomenally well. Ambient temps were in the 55F-60F range. ECT average showed 185F-190F and IAT average of 80F-90F throughout a 20 minute session without cool downs. No reduction in power nor any hiccups with the tune.
