A quick note to anyone adding updates.

Don't update your original survey. Just add a new post showing any changes. Thanks.

That way I can update the survey stats.

Vehicle: 2019 Civic Sport Hatch

Total tuned time: 2 months

Total tuned mileage: 2,500 miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V1.2

Tunes used: KTuner 21

Fuel used: QT 93 octane always

Additional engine mods: PRL Cobra intake, PRL carted downpipe, Greddy Supreme SP Exhaust

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: Pretty conservative. I drive 70% city 30% highway and try to always stay out of boost in the city. I only go WOT a few times a week and don't even go all the way to redline most of the time.
Here's an update 1 year later! I have been on TSP Stage 1 since January or so. I have had no issues and no clutch slippage.

Vehicle: 2019 Civic Sport Hatch

Total tuned time: 14 months

Total tuned mileage: 9,000 miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V1.2

Tunes used: KTuner 21psi (4k miles), TSP Stage 1 (5k miles)

Fuel used: QT 93 octane always

Additional engine mods: PRL Cobra intake, PRL catted downpipe, PRL intercooler and charge pipes, Greddy Supreme SP Exhaust

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: 50% city 50% highway. I only use my car on the street but I do my fair share of WOT. I race my friends occasionally, give it some throttle on back roads, highway onramps, etc. I am decently careful with the engine and trans. I don't go heavy on the throttle until the engine is warmed up. To preserve the clutch I don't floor the car below 3k rpm (except in very rare occasions) and I have the boost limited in 5th/6th.

Total tuned time:
10-11 months

Total tuned mileage:
13,000ish Miles

Tuning device(s) used:
Hondata Race version

Tunes used:
Hondata +6 basemap for 4 months, then Tsp stage 1 the rest of the time

Fuel used:
Costco 91, then shell 91, now chevron 91 with about .75gallons of e85 to try to mix about an e15 blend to keep knock control solid at 54-56 (equivalent to ktuner .49). No flex fuel kit installed yet

Additional engine mods:
PRL Cobra Race Maf
PRL Intercooler
Hasport 62a RMM
(Soon to come PRL Dp/Fp+flex fuel kit)
Stock clutch still with no slip

Problems/issues: None

Driving style:
Typically cruising to work and back. Smooth shifting. A couple pulls each time.
Every couple drives full send 3-4th gear.
Several canyon drives, full sending corners and straights lol.
1 time drag strip when stock (only basemap tune), full sent launch and everything. About 6 runs (my times sucked lol like mid 15seconds)
Some races (in mexico ?)
So I take care of the car (I believe so) but also have fun with it smart. Doing pulls only over 2.5k or 3K rpms and sometimes rolling into it rather than slamming on it. Avoiding high boost in 5-6th gear

Tuning experience notes:
No personal experience. Will most likely get an e-tune from D.Rob when I get my flex fuel kit

Yearly update!!

Vehicle: 2017 Si sedan

Total tuned time: almost 3 years now

Total tuned mileage: 70,000 miles... I tuned like two months into ownership

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner v1.2

Tunes used: Ktuner base maps, vit stage 1, custom javi tune and currently drob etune.

Fuel used: 93(76, mobile or shell) and E30-35 blends

Additional engine mods: rv6 down/front pipe catless, PRL Intercooler and flex kit, Cm Fx350 W1 turbo MAP intake

Problems/issues: Absolutely zero still! She treats me so well :)

Driving style: hmm some days I drive like a grandma and some days I’m a 16 year old in daddy’s vette. Specifically during quarantine in my area the streets were all “Mexico”. This year my driving has been way more aggressive than my first two years. Also even during non aggressive days I do a one second gear pull to redline on my way home from work(Italian tune up). There’s a long safe empty stretch right before my community. Also to add me and my dad acquired a TT 300zx that we were planning to do a huge rebuild on from auction, long story short insurance couldn’t figure out how to start it so we got a great deal and the engine seems super healthy. This made me worry a lot less about blowing my engine since we were planning on doing a engine build together anyways, adding to me driving very aggressive this year.

70,000 problem free tuned miles says a lot about this platform. Thanks for the update.

These new updated mileage numbers from everybody really helps our stats as far as reliability numbers.

Vehicle: 2018 Type R

Total tuned time: 2.5 years

Total tuned mileage: 25,000+ miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V2 for 6 months, Hondata since then

Tunes used: KTuner Stage 1 for 6 months, Hondata 93 PRL for a year, self-tuned for the past year, E30 for the past 6 months

Fuel used: Wawa 93 or Sunoco Ultra 93 + PurePower E85 @ E30

Additional engine mods: PRL intake, inlet pipe, intercooler, charge pipes, street downpipe

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: Constantly boosting and hitting red line fuel cut. I work from home so almost all of those miles are fun miles. I never see more than 16mpg, lol. Absolutely hoon the piss out of this thing.

Tuning experience notes: I started out knowing nothing about them and now I professionally tune Type Rs. I've never had any issues whatsoever, just a fun process of turning up the power. The fuel system isn't as much of a limitation as people make it out to be, it's just the main thing people run against with the basemap fueling.

Oh also wanna add I’ve been using ethanol blends since 45k miles. So 30k miles on ethanol. And I almost never do short trips and like I said I do the second gear pull to redline almost daily on my way home from work(low boost/normal mode) most of my aggressive driving is in normal mode so I’m not pushing the car to its limits all day everyday. Maybe that all helps reduce buildup or injector clogging... idk :dunno: .

Update #1

Vehicle: 2018 Civic Si Coupe

Total tuned time: 21 months (+9 months)

Total tuned mileage: ~24,000 miles (+10,000 miles)

Tuning device(s) used: Ktuner V1.2

Tunes used: Ktuner 23psi, Phearable Stage 1.5, TSP Stage 1 (currently on TSP)

Fuel used: 93

Additional engine mods: Hasport 62a RMM

Problems/issues: None.

Driving style: 80% grandma, 17% moderate boosting, 3% Ken Miles

Tuning experience notes:
Update 1: Tried Phearable and it was great but I switched back to TSP stage 1 so I can have my idle set to 1100 rpm to bypass the terrible vibration I get between 900-1000 rpm. The guys at TSP changed it for me a while back.

My first time tuning a car. Was scared at first but Ktuner's excellent customer support and the wealth of information on the forum has made me feel very comfortable flashing new tunes and just working on my car in general.

* UPDATE *
Vehicle: 2020 Civic Sport sedan, 2.0L w/ CVT

Total tuned time: 6 months

Total tuned mileage: 26,000 miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V1.2

Tunes used: KTuner Tune 1

Fuel used: 89 & 90 Ethanol Free

Additional engine mods: N/A ..stock everything (for now)

Problems/issues: None

Driving style: I use the car as my daily driver with some spirited driving to get around ppl making me nervous. Stop and go traffic often as well.

Tuning experience notes: First time ever modifying anything or any ECU software on a vehicle, let alone my 1st new one. I like how the car has lowered VTEC engagement and is more reactive to the gas pedal. Noticed that the Ethanol Free gas seems to run much better, for some reason..

Edit: has been absolutely problem free so far, I'm loving it

*Update to my original post from 1 year ago*

Vehicle
: 2017 Civic Hatchback Sport

Total tuned time: 1 year 4 months

Total tuned mileage: 30,000

Tuning device(s) used:
KTuner

Tunes used: Stage 2

Fuel used: 93

Additional engine mods: n/a

Problems/issues: No powertrain issues at all. Couldn't even imagine driving my Civic now without a tune. Just switched out my coolant and transmission fluid, currently at 72k miles and it drives great.

Driving style: Regular freeway commuter here so I'm usually cruising 60-75. I don't push my Civic hard, but I have some spirited driving on occasion. Always let the engine get up to temp before I try anything. With my tune I still average 34mpg on the freeway.

Some interesting stats from the survey so far:

Non-Si 1.5T's account for 64% of the major failures reported.

Zero failures from Type R or 2.0 NA models.

69% of participants own manual cars.

Many 1.5T owners have driven over 50,000 tuned miles. One owner has 101,000 trouble free tuned miles.

Only 25% of owners have tuned with Hondata.

81% of owners run base or OTS tunes.

46% of surveys are from Si owners.

55% of owners use 93 octane.
