What was your previous mileage so I can update the stats? I checked your original survey but you updated that as well.

You drive 6000 miles in a month???

Be sure to turn OFF cruise control. This is what caused me issues. lol.
Hold cancel for 2-3 seconds.
Use the cc (+, -) buttons to switch maps.
Press cancel again to hold the setting.
I took a trip to MA at probably 1000 miles there and I work 78 miles away so that's about 3500 miles there and then with the tune and especially now downpipe I just cruise a lot ?

And yeah man I tried this. Like the "main" is still on and CC off and then also with the whole thing off altogether and nothing. Very odd

Total tuned time: 22 months

Total tuned mileage: 60,000+ miles

Tuning device(s) used: KTuner V2

Tunes used:
KTUNER

Disable/Monitor: (1) UO122 – VSA, (2) P0299 Underboost Condition, (3) VSA Traction Control

Quick Adjustments
-Throttle Responsiveness = Improved Throttle Response II
-Turbo Spool = Improved Spool II
-ECO Button = ECO on Normalized Throttle
-Throttle Padding = Soft Throttle Padding

-Tune 1 Turbo Responsiveness = Improved Responsiveness III
-Tune 1 Target – Normal = Custom Boost Level
-Tune 1Target – ECO = Custom Boost Level
-Tune 1 Boost Target Ramp Rate = Aggressive Ramp II

Quick Enables
: (1) ENABLED Boost Target Dampening, (2) Enable Early Spool, (3) Disabled Rev Hang
Boost By Gear = All Custom Boost Level

Fuel used: 93 Octain, costco, shell, mobile

Additional engine mods: PRL Stage 1 intake, RV6 Down Pipe, Firehawk Indy 500 tires.

Problems/issues: At 68K miles my clutch is making a ringing/abrasion sound when I start from 2nd. See below for Disable Boost Target Dameping Notes. No other issues.

Driving style: More aggressive with occasional launching at first but calmed down to a healthy spirited level with rare all out launching to preserve the clutch.

Tuning experience notes: MPG is around 31. I do a mix of freeway and city.

NOTES on Disable Boost Target Dampening around 10K into testing the tuning limits at the beginning about 1.5 years ago. My impression at the time was: Disable Boost Target Dampening is a madman. Great launching. Clutch Slip somewhere around 3-4K+/- RPM in 3rd and 4th gears. It might have slipped in other places as well as it took a little bit for me to figure out what was going on and pay attention. Jumpy Throttle in general. Surprisingly jumpy throttle in high gears while cruising on freeway. Fun, but I feel like I’m pushing it. Too much for my taste until I get a new clutch and an intercooler. I like it on the low gears but the 4 & 5 could use a little ramping.

@gtman Any data on failures broken out by Ktuner vs. Hondata. And, do you think that is of value? I think just as anecdotal info it might be interesting to see.

The problems you guys will face from tuning the weak little 1.5t engine will only appear much later in it life...those engines have bad seals and oil dilution problems...it's all fine and dandy for now but at some point they will all start to break down cause that engine isn't well designed.

Thank you for your opinion. Obviously you have no data to base it on but you might be correct. By the way, all engines, tuned or not, will "break down" at some point. I choose to enjoy mine while it's still running and will deal with the break down if\when it happens.

Like Kim said, thanks for your opinion. I actually have a lot of faith that Honda built some headroom into these things, and tuning (within reasonable power levels), will prove long term reliable.

Honestly, that's what this survey thread is all about and why ALL tuned Civic X owners should post here. Those that don't do a survey are actually doing a disservice to our community.

What "bad seals"?
