Limp mode occurs when the coolant goes past boiling. I think that point is around 260F+. The car will not rev past 4500 RPM and rev match will be disabled. Car will instantly lose power and you will need to limp back into the pits, hence the name limp mode. I've never hit temp related limp mode, only when fuel starving.
