I got my new Borg Warner EFR wastegate "canister" in the mail today, 1 day shipping FTW! Now back to normal boost and it feels different, maybe placebo but it hits harder it think. I took the boost out of it at peak torque because i dont know how much its making.. not trying to leave my rods on the side of the road.. Still have to touch up the boost controller but ran out of time and honestly worried about getting a ticket.. it feels really fast today.

It is advertised to reach 33 psi. The old "medium" boost canister would only reach 22 psi. Most type R tunes wil be above 22 psi.. so its kinda bummer it comes standard with the 22 psi intead of the high boost, but i get it. Most people are going to run rub 20 psi on aftermarket stuff.

My PTP blanket has been getting destroyed by every wastegate ive had. There is no way around this as there is very minimal space between the actuator rod and the blanket. PTP knew it was going to rub a hole in it but they sell it like this anyway. Its putting little fiberglass looking shards all over my bay. It will eventually stop but i have to let the damage complete so it eventually stops.

As a help to that, I've grinded down the threads where it touches the blanket and have wrapped it in a heat tape in hopes it allows it to glide over the blanket better.

My next project is to complete the throttle body, ive bored this oen out but have goofed on the theottle plate stock.. Ive ordered .125 brass plate but it is simply way to big, no idea what i was thinking when i ordered it. In the mean time, im going to complete my upper intercooler pipe to get rid of the tight 90*. The throttle body uses a 2.75 coupler and it necks down to 2.5". The rest of the pipe looks easy with a slight bend in it.

I have to go back to work this weekend so it will be completed in a few weeks.

The heater hose is to do a coolant bypass on the throttle for when i take it off to swap the bigger tb on. The vibrant hose heater hose is really nice and flexible and will hold up to the heat and pressure better than stock.

The stock upper intercooler pipe has a very sharp 90* turn. I have always wondered what it would be like to get rid of it. I don't have any proof it actually works better but it just looks better with a full mandrel turn. Anyway, I spend 60$ on some parts to try it out and all seems well. Haven't made the mount for it yet but it was a quick solution for testing sake.

I used a vibrant 2.75 to 2.5 90* adapter for the throttle body. A small piece of straight and a transition that I had to cut to fit the stock 2.25 diameter. Then sweet talk a buddy to weld it all up.

So i finally got the dyno and my tuner together, as if the stars aligned!

75f Ambient temps, e55 fuel blend.

I started the day off with doing a few testing pulls on the waste gate spring 17-18 psi. He moved cam angles around, tried a combination of more or less port injection, intake tube on or off, in the box or out of the box. We captured a lot of good data today.

Ill start off saying that the stock motec cam angles that the ecu comes with are pretty close. We couldn't make any more power by changing them. As to be expected as they tuned their car.

The engine likes the most DIRECT injection you can give it than the most port injection. It was a roughly 10 horsepower loss by putting the MOST port injection we could into it.

The Intake i have makes more power than with no intake. I thought that was weird, but it lost through the whole pull. The intake makes the same power in the air box than pulled out of the air box.

With the hood closed, we lost 15 horse power.

With the q300 muffler attached, we were giving up 21 horse power.

Final power with no muffler, is 460, 455 with smoothing. 28 psi, 300 KPA

343 on 18 psi.

I made 363 on 28 psi on the stock turbo/downpipe/exhaust on this dyno. Picked up 100 HP by full exhaust and the efr turbo kit.

Wasnt man enough to run any more boost. Rather build the engine than buy a whole new one when a rod goes.

It was really nice today and i had some time today to do a little cleaning. I started to take the wheels off to install the rock guards, then realized they needed a good cleaning. I took the wheels off and used chemical guys wheel cleaner to clean the wheels and brake calipers.

The rock guards are pretty easy to install and offer a good solution to keep road debris off my paint when i get wider wheels.

Nice ill have to take a look.

At some point I plan on upgrading the stock turbo, and while I wont be doing anything that involves a stand alone ECU its still nice to see other things.

Rampage, Pure, and PRL are all on the list.

Gota be better than nothing though?
For now, with stock wheels and offsets, yes. I'm just betting that, with ~500hp on tap, you're going to end up on sticky 265-275/35/18's in front, and those will more or less clear the rock guard even pointed straight.

What do people do to protect it?
