Just know the employees are worthless so dont bother asking them anything
It's not the employees that are worthless, it's their training. They're simply not trained to be product specialists. They are there to replenish stock, maintain the store and get you through the checkouts. If you want an experience with a retailer who trains their staff to be product specialists, it's going to cost you much more.

Walmart being much busier, shouldn't the increased revenue allow them the headroom in the payroll budget to hire more maintenance workers?
You'd think so, but that's not how they roll.

Yes you’re completely right training in Walmart is on the fly training and they usually put someone that has no idea on how a certain department should run to train employees this is why you get that deer in headlight look when you ask a Walmart employee a question I thought it was bad in New York it’s worse in Florida

Walmart is all numbers driven, so no lol. Corporate rule of thumb says if you can run the business long enough you don't rehire the heads, regardless of how much of a shitshow it may be. As long as the top line is still strong, that is all that matters. Gotta pay them big wigs right???

Walmart also requires its suppliers to reduce cost every year in order to continue stocking the product at walmart, or at least they used to. It's a ruthless business model, and there's a reason there are walmarts in every corner of the US now.

Personally I prefer the Target experience but the price difference is too much, and I always end up buying more in target than I mean to. And the walmart near me is kind of... sub par in terms of some of the shoppers. Seen police there more than a few times in the year I've lived here. Yet they run their business in such a fashion that I find myself at this walmart a few times a week.
Working in a Walmart warehouse ( DC that’s the Walmart term)
a employee makes quite a bit more than a store employee. But
You work on quoter how many pieces can you pick per hour you have to keep up a 95% average on a weekly basis working in the freezer ( 22 below zero) you’re making 19 bucks an hour full time
it here the thing Walmart considers full time at 32 plus I worked in the freezer I was supposed to work three twelve hour days and have four days off but if anyone worked the actual 36 hours that was rare
i would have either 27 or 30 hours per week and nobody saw 40 hours. Do you really think Walmart is going to pay hourly employees
40 hours at 19 bucks an hour

Eh. Both. They have decent print-T shirts for the kids during back-to-school shopping and had better baby stuff when we were building the nest years ago at Target. Electronics section is better. Much better toys section. Target is a very good store when shopping for anything kid related.

Walmart has an ok line of cheap tools w/Stanley... have more automotive stuff if I need to buy a jug of oil... filters... wiper blades... etc. They also sell ammunition. I can buy Everlast auto and (not really but kind of) marine batteries for a cheap trolling motor.

There’s some stuff Target simply doesn’t have... though what they have (clothes, electronics, etc.) seems to be better quality.

Edit: I know Super Targets exist but haven’t been in one in years and there’s none around where I live. If we compared a Super Target to a Super Walmart... which virtually all Walmart’s seem to be these day (when I was a kid... there was still the small-style no-grocery Walmart’s with the huge crafts/fabrics section). Comparing the two might make some of my points moot.

Unfortunately, hell to the no :/ these big companies know how to get around this shit. And with no full-time status, they are not required to do benefits. The problem is, they are so big as a company, not much can be done about it unless it would be brought to a federal level. And even then, I'm not sure the government is going to push too hard on one of the largest employers in the US ( I recall it being #1 a few years back let me do a quick google..... yup still #1 employer at 1.5 million employees) for fear of job cuts, automation, etc.

Not saying it's right by any means, definitely not trying to justify it, just making observations on it.

The more I learn about how businesses are run, the less I want to do with them. But we live in a society where they pretty much rule, and it sucks.

I like both, but if I had to choose I'd probably choose target if I know that they have what I need

Walmart's selection is huge and I can knockout a whole bunch of things at once if I go to a superstore but easy to get lost and get stuck in there. Target is much cleaner I agree, much more knowledgeable employees there as well.

I think I've just grown accustomed to not being able to get customer service at walmart, so I don't ever expect any, nor do I need any. If the item I need is locked up, you bet your ass I'm gonna get it somewhere else. It'll take them 30 minutes to come over then realize they need to get someone else who has the right key. And some stuff that should not be locked up is... Like rubbers - I am not waiting for someone to come unlock that shit.

I really love target but I just end up getting more shit than I need. Their clothing is actually really nice, coming from someone whose 2nd highest discretionary spending is clothing (after mods of course, LOL) so I really love clothes shopping. Nothing beats looking fresh, you feel better too. They also usually have clearance end caps in the food section with great deals. The clearance clothing, if you get to it in time, is usually a crazy bargain.

The average price of a lot of the common things I buy at walmart is around $1 more at target as well, so maybe $15-$20 more per trip... That's unacceptable to me. It's bad enough I have to pay for the shit to wipe my ass lol, not paying $2 more for the package from Target to have a better "shopping experience". Employee help I don't really need and cleaner floors don't make up for the increased cost to me.

Too bad walmart couldn't come up with a more efficient way to operate, they could pay their employees more. Costco hauls in triple the amount of revenue/employee which is how they can pay so well in comparison to most retailers.

This is quite an interesting tidbit. You would think by now with how giant the organization is, they would be able to do some serious systematic improvement over a long period of time to get closer. If anything, triple the revenue per employee means costco makes way more profit even if they pay 2x what walmart pays! Damn man, thanks for sharing that!

Here’s another thing about Target you actually see the associates stocking the shelves during the day . And asking customers if they need help you don’t see this in Walmart at least the ones I used to go to. Their either walking around on the phone or staring at the ceiling floor or sitting bythe front door smoking. When I was a overnight stocker in a New York Walmart the shelves were almost empty because the day shift associates wouldn’t stock the shelves their excuse was that their helping customers all day ( that’s a joke)

It's useful to realize that Walmart as a business is at least 7 times bigger than Target. I have been going to Walmart much more than Target.

The "customer service" is a non-issue to me in this kind of places. For what? I just grab what I need and I have fun looking at the exotic real people who live in this country. I like people. Shopping at Walmart was pure fun.

The last time I asked for help at a Walmart was years ago, when the big heavy cardboard box I wanted to buy (the last one) was covered with a heavy layer of black dust. I asked an employee if he could help me wiping it a lil bit, because I didn't want to carry all this dirt into my car. I expected he would bring some wet rag or paper towels, but instead he wiped and polished it all immediately with his own sleeves and clothes. "Here you are." Who says Walmart has poor customer service?

Recently I seriously limited my purchases at these businesses as they pledged $10 million (Target) and 100 million (Walmart) to "social justice" organizations, instead of their own payroll or decreasing the prices for the customers. I guess they make excessive profits and I don't want to patronize such businesses. I'm watching where this money will go. I'm not particularly upset if their stores are looted.

I'm just a filthy foreigner who visited once but walking around Walmart was an experience. I found the staff to be perfectly fine and friendly but some of the customers were full blown mental cases.

I'd chalk it down to a one-off but I was there for a few weeks and I'd see crazy shit each time. I once saw an entire family who were wearing matching camo. What the actual faack. ?

Also, what's with checking your receipt on the way out? I misunderstood that the first time and thought it was just some pushy sales dude but he got real snotty with me.
