Hey Guys!

Nick here from Mishimoto, with some exciting news for added heat protection on your FK8! We're proud to announce the launch of our direct fit Turbo Blanket line, including fitment for the Civic 1.5T!

It's old news that Honda mounted their super hot turbos right up against the radiator, which doesn't help with the already overtaxed cooling system. So, we wanted to make sure that you could add another layer of protection for your radiator with one of our titanium turbo blankets:

Honda Civic 10th gen Tailor Fit Heat Protection - Mishimoto Turbo Blankets MMTB-CIV-16_1

Our turbo blankets are constructed with an outer layer of volcanic lava rock and titanium woven fabric. The inner layer traps heat with a high-silica fabric and stainless-steel mesh for maximum durability. This allows the interior layer to withstand over 2,300°F (1,260°C) while the outer layer protects against temperatures over 1,760°F (960°C). Mishimoto turbo blankets have no trouble keeping the heat from permeating throughout the engine bay. This Mishimoto turbo blanket is a direct fit for the stock turbocharger equipped on your 2016+ Honda Civic 1.5T and is backed by our Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty for a lifetime of protection against engine bay heat.

Make sure that you get yours today!

TITANIUM TURBO BLANKET, FITS HONDA CIVIC 1.5T 2016+

As always, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions that you might have!

Looks great! How and where will the built up heat from the turbo escape to cool itself down? Seems like the hot air will stay trapped in the blanket with the turbo.

That is the trade off of a turbo blanket or any heat wrapping for that matter. You insulate the hot side of the turbo to prevent heat soak of neighboring components but you heat up the turbo. Now the hot side of the turbo is designed for heat, but how much? We can't really say. Only long term reviews will let us know if the OEM turbos can handle the increased heat.

Hey Guys!

Just wanted to bump this up and let our Australian friends know that these turbo blankets are now available on our AU site!

Great question! Trapping the hot exhaust gasses in the impeller manifold actually helps the turbo perform more efficiently, since turbos operate using hot exhaust gasses. The heat can also still dissipate from the housing even with the blanket installed, not to mention most modern turbos are at least cooled with engine oil and in some cases also have a coolant circuit running through the housing to manage temperatures. The main purpose of the blanket is to keep that heat from radiating through the engine bay.

That is the trade off of a turbo blanket or any heat wrapping for that matter. You insulate the hot side of the turbo to prevent heat soak of neighboring components but you heat up the turbo. You raise some good points! These housings are typically made from cast iron, so they should be more than capable of handling continuous temperatures upwards of 1500-2000°F, which comes from some seriously hard-driving. Through our experience, these blankets won't cause any drastic lifespan changes for your turbo, but it's always good to routinely inspect the unit, and keep up with routine maintenance to ensure healthy boosting in your Civic!

Thanks guys!
Nick

Got an install video or pictures to see how the blanket covers said turbo? Seems silly but interested to see how the unit looks installed.

Apologies on the delayed response! Unfortunately, we don't have an installed image at this time, but we will definitely update the product page once we're able to get one!

Great,

Is this also able to be installed with the OEM heat shield or does the heat shield need to be removed permanently?

You won't be able to reinstall the OEM heat shield with the turbo blanket installed
