Getting some all season wheels/tires from tirerack.com

I'd like to swap the wheels myself and show son the process.
I have no jacks or stands, but happy to find out what's best to purchase so I can do this on my own.

Would race ramps [+], low profile jack [+] + 4 jack stands [+] do the trick?
Watched Flying Gato's video on how to lift Type R here [+]

I'm assuming you can take off the lugs with manual tool...if wrench handle long enough...correct?
Putting back on? Looks like as long as my manual torque wrench goes to 94 ft lb., that'll will work.

I suggest getting a good floor jack and a set of appropriate jack stands if you want to start doing your own work; i.e. wheels, brakes, rotors, oil, etc. In regards to wheels you can just use a floor jack on the side pinch welds because you're not getting under the car, but to be safe you can toss a jack stand under incase the jack falls.

I use a Harbor Freight breaker bar to loosen the lugs and just remove by hand; i'm in no rush. Then I use a cheap harbor freight torque wrench to finish tightening the lugs.

I wish I owned a garage so that I can store all sorts of cool tools like a floor jack and do my own swaps. I'm also looking at going down to 18s once I have the funds to do so, but since I don't have a garage, I usually have the local America's Tires shop in town do all that for me. I would just bring them my wheels and have them mount them on the tires that I would eventually buy from them anyways. I can either take home my OEM wheels with me or just drive back with the minivan and pick them up that same day.

If you're buying your tires from tire.rack, aren't they affiliated with America's Tires? Maybe they can mount them on for you without any charge?

I finally was able to save up and mounted my 18s. I posted in another thread but I’ll share here as well in case you guys may have missed it. These are the best tires for this car and I no longer have to deal with those annoying bumps that the 20s were running hard over. These 18s soak them up so well. Driving confidence is now at 1000%.

@MrTuckers , super nice wheels! Agreed...glad I finally switched to some 18s. The more I have them on the more I like the look better than 20s.

Have you guys sold your 20s out of curiosity and if so, how much did they or would they sell for (1 of my wheels and tires have curb rash) ?

Probably not much. Facebook classifieds and this forum are littered with people getting rid of them. I figured around $1000 max for a pristine set, less if damaged.

@Eugene_Fk8 , do Voltex's come with instructions? I bought a pair from AeroFlow Dynamics [+], and they had no instructions. APR's did, and luckily I found out you don't have to take the bumper off...you can go through the vents.
They do, you can download on their website, but anyway APR does not test for aerodynamic on their Canards. Those are more cosmetic than actual function.

Hi: So what are those wheels and tires? Where did you acquire them and how much did they cost, if you don't mind me asking? Do you track the car?

Hi- Thanks for asking. I still have these wheels and they’re a great starting combo to have installed on the Typr R.

I bought my wheels (Gram Lights 57DR - 18x9.5 / +38 / 5x120 - Semi Gloss Black) from System Motorsports. Please contact Thomson for any deals he may be running. Great guy to work with.

As fir my tire setup, I have Michelin Pilot 255/45-18s I believe. (Check my other posts for setup) Sport 4S tires. I can say that these tires are so wonderful on the highway. I just wrapped up a 660 mile trip from the Bay Area up to Portland and it was such a comfortable, responsive and compliant ride. Very impressed. Prior to this long trip, I’ve only drove this car sparingly on weekends and this was the first time I’ve taken it over 150 mile total round trip. The car barely has 6,000 miles on it.
Switching from Sport to Comfort mode through the windy mountains and back to comfort in straightaways you can really feel the difference. Such an enjoyable ride!! I had my daughters and small dog with me and no complaints at all.

Last Sunday I found some twisty bit roads nearby around the backroads and I had a wonderful time. I was able to switch it to Type R mode and it was a thrill. I never tracked the car and just like to drive it around town, backroads and occasional highway.

I hope this information helps you out. All in all I invested less than 3K on the setup.
