I've never tried to reinstall mine. But I don't see any reason why it couldn't be done.
You may be limited to using a lot of downward force to get the thing in. That may damage or bend the top section.
Maybe some sort of adhesive/glue on the splines would help.
FWIW... my struts haven't moved since I pulled the pins a year ago. All the other threads say that their entire purpose is basically for easy and quick alignment during assembly.
