Take a phillips head screwdriver and ise a hammer to give it a few tapes so that it indents the screw farther in. You should be able to screw it out easily after that

i replaced all of my clips and twist screws with 10mm m6x1.0 bolts. So just use a 10mm socket everytime now and no issues lol...twist screws and that phillips one kept pissing me off.

but yea use a vice grip...you can put in a m6x1.0 bolt with a bigger washer to cover the hole. works the same as those phillips bolts.

a left handed drill bit should get that out. the auto parts store usually sells kits with a few different size bits for not too much $$. good luck.

How much torque are you using to tighten them? Shouldn't need more than about 7-10 lb-ft. Also, you should use the correct tool. Don't use Phillips head screwdrivers on the car, use JIS drivers.

You might make a straight groove across the top of the screw with a hacksaw. You could then use a large straight blade screwdriver to install/remove the screw.

Forany screw, you must use the bigger screwdriver head screw can hold.
I'm sure you use a too small screwdriver.

A phillips screwdriver doesn't work very well with these screws. I noticed this the first time I changed the oil. For a car built in the USA I don't know why they used a non-Phillips screw. I doubt they imported the removable cover from Japan.

Funny, no issue on our two family Civic with more than 15 oil changes by myself.
Something you may do wrong.

Doing nothing wrong. A phillips will work adequately but it's not a match for the screw.
