I may be in the minority but I'm in the younger age group (24) but don't feel the need to go for too big power

I love ripping roads near me (bear mountain, peaksill, central nj roads) rather than going fast in straight lines. Sure it's always fun going head to head with a car and seeing who can get gapped first but I find more enjoyment in spirted drives through twisties with friends.

Just itching for a tiny bit more power on my car, the max I'll most likely go is FBO with an upgraded clutch and that'll be plenty good for me.. this gen is such a great handling car, I wanna utilize every bit of it

PS- your 2nd sentence was the longest sentence that I've read all year. ?
i won’t argue with you my punctuation isn’t the best. You do have a point I am the same way I wouldn’t mind having a Vette or a older
performance car like a AMC AMX 68-70 390 go pak . It’s these
what supposed to be a affordable performance car mustang, Camaro and challengers with incredible horsepower because if you think about it the car really isn’t design for that much HP. All of this 700 plus horsepower was a after thought and they beefed up these vehicles. Just like earlier musclecars a midsized grocery getter design to have straight six to a ” small “ block V8 than they drop a Big block V8 that was really the power plant for trucks and land yachts ( Cadillac Lincolns ) and it’s not just performance cars I see that get into trouble on the highway it’s SUVs which also cannot handle high speeds and a lot of it has to do with the driver as well

You have the right car for what you want. It’s some of these people that see a lot power to be honest do you really need 700 hp ? Imo 300 ish HP for a affordable performance car should be.

Agreed, but I also understand why people go big power. My friend who pushes 371hp on his Si just likes going fast and doing runs against people, some people go big power for street bets and some just like going fast.

I like going fast too but I find more joy in turns. I think going FBO+tuned with a clutch is good enough power to go fast and have fun doing roll races but also great power for the mountains without sacrificing reliability and spending too much (i.e. big turbo, building the block, e85)

@suhhh You probably are in the minority, but don't worry, you've got company lol.

I've never driven anything with crazy power, but I really do feel like with the ktuner 21psi tune, intake, downpipe, and exhaust this car is WAY faster than it should be. I carpool to work, and one guy hasn't been in the car in a few months. Definitely not since I've tuned and installed the downpipe. Well, we had to merge onto the highway and get past an 18 wheeler so I punched it and his jaw dropped lol. Literally for about 5 straight minutes he just kept going "wtf dude!" "wtf we were doing like 30 and I look over and we're almost at 80!" And I just laughed and said "yeah, these little civics ain't too shabby huh?" And I don't even have TSP yet.... Well or pherable. I think with the news they shared the other day that CVT tune will come sometime soon I will hold off for that.

I definitely have a yearning for more power, but not to take it out on the road. I would say realistically once you get over 400hp it's impractical for the streets. I've also never been a fan of the fact that the cars which are very fast in a straight line tend to be horrible around corners. It's a lot more fun to go balls out on a canyon or mountain run with twisty roads at a maximum of like 60mph than to do a bunch of straight line pulls to over 100mph. BOOOORRRIINNNGNGGGGGGGG

I would however love to build an old civic up to be a crazy drag machine someday in the future. For now, I'd like to get a drift miata in order.

We really are the same bro smh I wish you were closer so we could hang n kick it

But likewise I've never driven anything with crazy power, most of my stuff was focused on either being low or just slightly above stock with some bolt ons. I completely agree that with just a few upgrades like ktuner and downpipe/exhaust the car will haul tons of ass easy for the money that you spend. Even when I drove my non-car friends around and punched it in a corner they would be like "WOAH" even though it's not really that fast at all. These cars are mf torque monsters

Also agreed that 400+ isn't the best for DD. Sure I can go big turbo and all that for top end power but then I'd be sacrificing low/medium.

WE OUT TO GET THAT DRIFT MIATA SOON AND DO SOME POP UP HEADLIGHT WAVES

It's a damn shame dude. Gotta link up sometime and do some runs, I don't have any good mountains or anything here. I'd make a weekend out of it, but we're running out of time before winter ruins everything.

I love how these cars pull around a corner. You punch it as you exit and smile eeevery time. Especially the coupe... and with the Si suspension I bet yours feels better.

I agree - big turbo = no bueno down low, and I don't really race or anything on highways so I would rarely use it. I think I've seen more talk about hybrid turbos and stuff recently, as I think a lot of people feel the same way - they don't want to sacrifice low end just to get a better top end. If you ask me, that's only useful if you're racing people on the highway or going to the strip.

Uak bro. Big build for the miata. Just need to decide if I'm going that route or paying off my car and grabbing a CTR before they have been around too long to find a decent deal on one in good shape

you must not be far from where I grew up/lived most of my life at. There's some nice driving roads in those areas. I'd love to have my Si up there now, I don't get much on all the flat roads and highway driving around Texas. I never had high HP cars when i lived up there, i used to run away from high hp cars on those twisty roads in my little 100hp del sol with coilovers and an itr sway bar lol loved every second of that.

Back in 1998 my friend had bought a 1970 chevelle SS 454 LS 5 360 hp (remember that was gross horsepower rating back in 1970)with a M22 rock crusher 4 speed ( non hydraulic) clutch the only saving grace of this car is that it had power front disc brakes and power steering. it was supposed to be fully restored ( that’s another story)
Yes it had a straight line go but once you hit a corner you want to do at least 25 mph even still that this model came with a handling package ( F&R sway bars looked like coat hangers). after driving that car and I would get into my 1991 Escort GT at the time it wasn’t fast like the chevelle but it took the corners a lot better
btw he bought the chevelle for 12k in 98
and sold it for 35k in 2011

For sure bro!! Me and my small car group (I left njxgens) are planning an end of october run to peekskill to finish the season before we start to go winter mode, it's going to probably be 8< people but I'd love for you to join if you are down to :headbang:

Agreed, I drive in too much traffic to have too much high end power and no low end, I wouldn't even utilize most of it most days of the week so I rather have a fun low/mid range car I could zip around in.

And yeah paying off is always the best move, I'll still owe some money on my car but in 1< year I should have a good amount of safety net to where I can get myself a 5k or under miata beater and go from there, I'm pretty set on that route.

that's awesome bro. I'm from north jersey but my bestfriend lives in middlesex so I'll come down every now and then to run the hills with him. He has a 2013 5 speed LX with some sticky tires on it and suspension mods and has an absolute blast on those roads, don't need high hp here at all to have fun which is why I love it here.

Texas I'm sure is mostly focused on building some high horsepower monsters

Dude, I'm about to leave the 10gensociety shit I joined. It's some serious bs. I want to get a small crew together to have fun. I think it'll be easier to get quality members without restricting types of cars, but then there is a lack of a relatively common ground... Not sure what to do to find what I'm looking for, but it's hard to find good people nowadays.

So that's only 5 hours from me. Not too bad if I left from work on a Thursday or Friday and stayed over a day or 2. I am from Massachusetts so I'm used to making that 6 hour drive many times a year. I would be down man just need advance notice to set my calendar and figure out where I'd stay!

I owe so much on mine lol. I started real estate on the side however so once those checks start rolling in I'm gonna take huge chunks out of my debt at a time.

LOL them winks bro ? ?

Yeah fr, idk how 10gensociety is over there but I don't really like them in NJ. Too much drama between some car groups here in jersey that I don't have time for. I'm a grown ass man, why tf we gotta have drama when we all have the same passion and also the same car lol

But yeah lmk, I know it's a trip but if you wanted to bring some buddies down too then feel free to, I'll keep you posted about it

And same!! I've been learning real estate on the side for the past year or so, I'm trying to ownmy first house in about 2 years then mortgage it and go from there and start building my assets. Money making mentality homie let's get this green

that's awesome. my del sol is probably my favorite car I've owned after my s2000. such a fun car especially with a few suspension mods. I live just outside of Austin and if you make a drive out west you can find some decent roads but its a lot of highway, a lot of flat stuff. most of it isn't very interesting to drive. I take a back way home that gives me one small section of curves every day just to break up the monotony. miss NY for the driving roads but not the potholes LOL
