Soft paint

I’ll be paint correcting, applying PPF and ceramic coating my FK8 over the coming weeks.

All my previous performance cars were German with notoriously hard paint.

From my brief experience with my FK8 and some research it appears we are dealing with soft paint and thin clear coat.

Any advice/tips from you gents on the subject?

How delicate are we talking here pad and compound wise?

I think you can use a normal pad and compound that isn’t aggressive.

Just let the weight of the DA polisher do the work and don’t do more than 5-6 passes. Should clean up nicely.

Also don’t expect to be able to do a full paint correction every other year with this paint. Keep it away from the automatic car scratcher washes with brushes. Maybe 2 or 3 times during the life of the car, max. Ceramic coating is definitely worth it of you want it to stay nice for more than 8 years.

My black 2017 Si has paint missing in a couple spots that were really thin. The hood is absolutely peppered. Any contact from a door ding, dent or not, will chip the paint. Hell, a finger nail will make a noticeable scratch in this paint.

The paint on this car is really soft. Using just a yellow ropes foam pad and Sonax perfect finish it removed all the swirls in just 3-4 passes using almost no pressure
