Snow/All-Season Tire size for 18x8 wheels; 235/40 or 235/45 ?

Looking to purchase snow/all-season tires for 18x8 cheapo wheels. TireRack suggests using 235/45 but the speedo will be a bit more off than if I used 235/40 tires according to the calibration calculator:

Speedometer reading: 65mph

Actual speed:
235/40/18: 64.03mph
235/45/18: 66.36mph

What do you guys think? User experiences?

I went 225 45 18. The least difference.

Yeah you're right, if using 225/45 and the speedo reads 65mph, actual speed is 65.47, not bad at all

What is the difference if you go with 235/40 for 19s? What I plan on doing. Already have me a set built, just need to purchase!

I plan on buying 18x8 wheels with 235/40 tires. I wasn't sure if they would fit or not!

I have 235/45/18 but they're not yet on the car.

If anything, as they wear down, you'll get more and more accurate!

I don't mind what speedometer reads...
I went with 235/40-19 becsuse i wanted the sidewall to be as big as possible with 19's. The difference is 16mm in diameter (2.4%)
If you go with 235/40-18 the wheell wil be slighty smaller than oem (-1.5%). Why? Go with 235/45-18 (2.1% larger)!

Decided on 225/45s Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires and some cheapo Moda MD24 18x8s. Should be here by tomorrow. Went with 225s due to the following: 1) more accurate speed reading, 2) narrower tire is better for snow usage, and 3) ~$20 cheaper per tire vs. 235s

Going to swap to these when I go for my oil change at 5k miles (currently at 4200 something) which should be by end of month, unless snow shows up next week and I'll just do it myself

Well... it depends. You use spacers when the rim get too close to the brake caliper and you want to push them out. Centric rings are for the after marker rims which usually have a larger center bore (to fit different cars) than the OEM rims.

Put on Winter Tires from Tire Rack - 18x8.5 - 35 mm offset Black Machined w/Grey Tint KMC KM703 with Kumho SOLUS XC - SIZE: 235/45R18 Touring all season. Mounted, balanced, road hazard and delivered to Baltimore MD for $1202. Had to use center rings to mount them. Raised the car roughly 1/2"

They are OK on the handling side, I've had to slow down on the turns - I bit of roll from the hind end. Quiet tires View attachment 74563
