Took of the wheels off the SI today and oh. my. gosh... how heavy are these rims. I’ve had some beefy rims before but never weighed this heavy. How many pounds do the stock SI rims weigh?

Anyone weighed the 2020 wheels?

I got rid of the Sport wheels on my 2017 cause of the weight and worry about potholes, but I'll stick with the 2020 Si wheels when I get the car. They look too good to sell.

My wheel+tire was 50.8 lbs. Tire rack says an eagle sport in 235/40r18 is ~23 lbs. So I would say the 2020 wheels are probably close to 28lbs as well.

500 miles on the Eagle Sport All-Seasons, may be why it shows up a little heavier on mine.

Thank you for actually weighing these wheels!

The extra weight is probably some small stones, squirrel fur etc.

THanks yeah - 28 lbs seems to be typical 18" OEM wheel weight for any carmaker. They must prioritize strength over weight.

What would be a good weight range to look for in aftermarket wheels? Some of the ones I've seen are sub 20lb each but I'm a little worried about them holding up to potholes/road debris. Especially with the amount travel miles I put on.

Nothing scientific but I believe this picture sums up the weight of most OEM wheels:

I've had two sets of OZs that were 17 lbs or so, and both had no bends in 14 years. They were a size down however, both were 17". But I've had 16" wheels bend so I think they're just very strong.

Stock wheels are cast 28lbs each. Stock Goodyears are 23lbs each.

I've tried many configurations, and here's what I found:

- Stock wheels + stock tires = lots of front end push aka understeer. Lots of wheelspin and wheelhop when hammering the throttle in first, and chirping second. Vague, squishy steering feel

- 17" RPF1 + Firestone Indy500 = quick steering + improved acceleration from lesser inertia. Reduced wheelspin and wheelhop due to grippier tires, not fully eliminated. Looked a bit small on the sedan's body however

- 18" Konig Ampliform (19lbs each) + stock tires = less front end push as there is lesser load inertia on the tires from having lighter wheels. Off the line there was even more wheelspin and wheelhop because it didn't take as much load to accelerate

18" Konig Freeform (19lbs each) + Continental ECS + 27won RMM + FBO = excellent steering feel, tremendous grip, and little wheelspin and no wheelhop due to solid RMM. The added grip was placing more load on the factory clutch because now the energy wasn't able to spin the tires due to the grip levels

18" BBS RG406 (18lbs) + Continental ECS + FBO = stock clutch is on its way out, to be replaced with CTR retrofit shortly. Grip and Steering Feel in corners, and just overall response to inputs is still fantastic!

-----

Hope that helps. I really do think everyone needs to consider lighter wheels and tires at the top of their list for performance modifications. Once I have the new clutch in, I'll be able to put down all the power, and have all the grip that I can expect from the current tires :)

The SSR GTX01 18x8.5 +44mm that I am using weighs 19.6 lbs without the tires. It is very light and strong.

Something around 1lbs/inch of diameter for performance. 18” wheel, +/- 18 lbs. Not a perfect science, and a wider diameter (eg 9.5” will weigh more) but that is a decent place to start. A wheel weighing 21-22 lbs will cost less in most cases than something 17-19 lbs and you’d still be saving unsparing weight. A lot of the Enkei tuning series wheels fall in that 21-23 lbs range.
