so I know the SI has different internals than the non- SI. Besides different pistons for the lower comp, does anyone know what the actual differences are?

Not sure precisely, but the rods are a different part # also(non is 13210-59B-J00, Si is 13210-5PA-A00) Crank is the same between the 2 (13310-5AA-A00). The head itself (bare) is the same part #12100-59B-000. The intake cams vary as well, with non-Si being 14110-5AA-A00 intake and 14120-5AA-A00 exhaust. Si is 14110-5PA-A00 intake. The valvesprings and valves themselves are the same. Alternator has a different part #. Flywheel is a different part #. The injectors on non-Si are 16010-59B-315, Si are 16010-5PA-305. Intake manifold/oil pump/throttle body are all the same. I think that covers most of the interesting tidbits. Time will tell what the actual changes are.

the flywheel being different surprises me since when @VitViper had his trans open on the SI it looked like the non- SI DMF

If that surprises you the retail on each should even more so, non-si (22100-5CC-003) is $776, the Si (22100-5CD-003) is $111.43...not sure how that makes any sense but that's what I've found. These are both less when ordered online through a dealer.

The Si flywheel is a traditional single mass unit. The non Si is a more complex dual mass flywheel that is built for comfort but heavier and less sporty. As stated above some (if not all) of the Si Civics have shipped with the dual mass flywheel wheel, possibly due to production issues.

anyone know of a way to check (besides opening the trans) to verify which SI's actually received a SMF, if any of em at all? VIN check?

PRL is working on a rotating assembly that will handle 500HP(Crank, pistons and rods) There's big power potential coming for those who want it.

Early on, Honda said the Si would have a SMF. They've since removed all references to that claim and it has been confirmed that at least one Si has a DMF just like the regular Civic. Not sure if this was a "typo" a while back or if there was a last-minute engineering change. Another thread mentioned that the SMF part number that appears for the Si is not actually an orderable part...at this time - or ever?

You might want to take a look at this thread...

It will most likely just be pistons and rods, haven't seen a Honda yet that needed the crank upgraded under 1,000hp. Not being sarcastic either, even the old single cam D series engines with over 800WHP were using stock cranks.

to get to power in that range I feel the only thing left stock will be the block itself haha

I am curious how much power these internals will hold. I know they are small as hell but at least things like rods are forged. haha

Shouldn't be too hard. The K20/K24 routinely hit over 500whp on completely stock engines. These engines aren't related but my point is Honda typically overbuilds the engines a good bit.

It will be interesting to see what the Stock Fuel System is capable of supporting since we really don't know how far it will go to support higher HP levels..( fuel pump and injectors ).. but from seeing the results so far .. I would have to take a guess that 280~290hp and about 340ftlbs would be the upper limit on the OEM parts... Wonder if some of the people tuning these new Civics' have come close to hitting this wall and have they thought about a tuning solution ( have yet to see DI injectors CC' ratings for the Civics' :hmm: )
