Was kinda disappointed in the stock sub like a lot of other people, so I ended up taking my sub and amp I had laying around from my previous car and fitting it in. Surprisingly hits super strong, to the point where there’s no reason to go any bigger/higher with quality sound. Only thing is the common truck rattle that I’m too lazy to determine at the moment.

Basically took out the battery and routed it through the firewall behind it, through the door trims, tucked under the back seats, then to the trunk. Cut the stock sub wires (still reversible), added some wires, and connected it to my amp.

Used a small bit of this video for routing cables

Sub is a 10 inch kicker rated around 300w I believe, and the amp is 1000. Pretty sure those are the right numbers but I'll double check.
that trunk rattle is coming from under the trunk light, youll need a small piece of foam to wedge up in there. someone already made a post with pictures of what im talking about. it took me a few tries to get rid of all my rattles in my sedan

The amp appears to be an old Alpine 4 or 5ch amplifier. At most you're looking at 200w RMS on it's best day.

If that Kicker is 4 ohm, looks like the sub channel is 250w RMS at 14.4v, and less power than that if you are running less voltage at the amp. Voltmeter will tell you what you are drawing there and you can figure RMS.

SPECIFICATIONS

CEA-2006 Power Ratings
  • CEA-2006 Power Rating: 60W RMS x 4 + 250W RMS x 1 (4-ohm, 14.4V at <1% THD+N)
Max Power Output Ratings
  • Max Power: 1200W (CH1/2/3/4) + 1200W (Subwoofer)
RMS Power Ratings
  • Per channel into 4 Ohms: 60W RMS x 4 + 250W RMS x 1 (14.4V at <1% THD+N)
  • Per channel into 2 Ohms: 90W RMS x 4 + 350W RMS x 1 (14.4V at <1% THD+N)
  • Bridged 4 Ohms: 180W RMS x 2 (14.4V at <1% THD+N)

Ah, that's why the outputs are stacked. It looked liked the older chassis, so I didn't even consider the V70. Either way, it's only capable of 350w RMS @ 2 ohms on the sub channel. The 700 is including the 4 channel portion.

Did you strap down the sub somehow or will it bounce around the trunk during spirited driving?

Is replacing the sub that is in it already as a plug and play (or with the addition of an amp) not an option? I'd like to use the same infotainment screen but add some volume and increase sound quality, but I don't want a big ol' box in the trunk. Also, I don't know anything about stereo upgrades...

yeah I later put in 2 L brackets attached to the plastic trunk mat holding the subwoofer. it surprisingly holds pretty well
