My 2018 Si has developed a whine primarily loudest in second gear. Have just over 13,000 miles on the car. It’s very faint in 1st and 3rd gear. It’s completely quiet 4th gear on. Counter shaft bearing possibly? I heard that Honda is claiming some noise to be normal after break in period, but this thing sings over the radio when you go into second gear. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Thanks you for any input.

Are you running the AC, heater or defroster when this happens? Does it happen when your engine is cold, or does it also happen when it's warmed up?

Hi, it’s noisy cold or hot. I did turn off ac and fan as well. I read the condenser makes some noise so I tried that first. It’s still present.

I would have somebody sit in the drivers seat and hit the accelerator with the hood open and see if it's the drive belts or any of the accessories. If the whine happen only when you are in gear and driving, it's best to make an appointment with your Honda dealership

I've noticed the gear whine since I installed my 27Won rear motor mount at around 5,000 miles. In my case I just assumed it's the motor mount transferring more of the vibration from the transmission into the cabin making the whine very easy to hear.

If you are talking about the whistling coming from the vents when you are around 1500-2500 rpm, then it’s pretty common. Honda says it’s normal and there’s nothing they can fix.

Hi, no it’s not vent noise. Almost sounds like the straight cut gear noise, but I was to under the impression Honda doesn’t use those except for reverse . It’s strange for sure. I believe it’s about to take the trip to the dealership

I think we’re having the exact same issue. I’ve scoured the forums left and right and it’s either the AC condenser issue or something else completely out there but this description goes in line with my exact issue. I’m at 32000 miles now but I feel like the issue has snuck up on me. Does your car sound like this in any way? If so any updates from the dealership?

Yes that is exactly what mine sounds like. Even with the AC off completely. The shop foreman drove it and I pointed it out to him. He said he drove another one after it and said it made the same exact noise. I’m on the fence about that. I have to take it back in for a creaking e brake issue and I’m going to have them take me in a new Si and see if it’s noisy. I may go by a different dealership and have them look at it. I only have 14,000 on mine. I do have a 7 year or 120,000 extended warranty so it’s covered. I would have them check it out for sure.

If you get a diagnosis of the issue, please let me know. I don’t think it’s normal like the dealership said.

Oh yeah of course man. I don’t have an appointment with the dealership yet but I’m planning to take it in within the next couple weeks or so. I’ll be sure to keep you updated:thumbsup:

Yours sounds healthy in the video. Exhaust system on it?

I'm pretty sure mine has made that noise since the day I got it if I am hearing it right.
