I'm interested in blacking out the taillight deck on my sedan but the only pre cut kits are for hatchbacks. Are the taillights actually different or are retailers just being extra cautious? Does anyone have the answers? If you have already done this on your sedan what vinyl did you use?

I know this doesn't really answer your questions, but...

I wrapped my hatchback tail light sides myself without a pre cut kit. I wrapped it using 3M 1080 G12 Gloss Black. I like it better than the kits because it covers the whole thing including that bump on the fwd part of the side.

Here’s an idea, just don’t! It’s a safety hazard

Safety hazard? Even though the brake light is incandescent, it'll still be bright enough and the LED taillights are brighter than most normal taillights.

Was driving behind a truck today that had blacked out rear lights, could only faintly see them when he was braking and couldn't see the tail lights otherwise, tbh any reduction in brightness would be a hazard imo. Less visibility=more likely slightly-distracted drivers won't see you

That's true.

Hey yall i appreciate the people that have responded. I am not trying to black out my tail lights completely. I want to get them like the one in the picture. Does this change anything?
