is there a plastic scale model kit? I haven't done an exhaustive search, but I haven't been able to find one.

There is no build your own scale model kit yet. At least not Tamiya. Which is the standard.

Still waiting for a BB one... I got an Agean Blue one like the one @NHCivicGuy posted above - with my license plate added...and I have a White TOMY one on the way.
