So I hit up Richie from rv6p. When the new revision comes out, it's not going to just be an add on. You would need to send your turbo in for an upgrade and also purchase a new elbow. Luckily for me, my turbo hasn't been installed yet. So it looks like I'll be shipping it back for the upgrade.

Here is a direct quote from the email he replied to me.

"We are still in the testing stages of the AS housing. We should have them available in about a month if all goes well. However we have decided not to sell just the housing. The turbo will have to be sent in for the upgrade. You will also need to buy our inlet pipe elbow as the AS housing is a full 3" and bigger than anything on the market. More details will come soon.

Regards
Rich"

This is extremely disappointing. I understand possibly needing to verify ownership, and making it more than the AS housing also makes sense

But in my opinion, the additional work on their part, and the additional work required to pull the entire turbo and not just the housing; as well as shipping costs (whomever bears those) isn't a value add.

Unless there is something I am totally missing, i would 10/10 times not want the increase cost for something that is a few minute swap in my own shop.
It's not any sort of verification of ownership, it is because unfortunately many people cannot be trusted to modify the turbocharger to this extent without something going wrong and RV6 is not able to be on the hook for any potential damages. Rather than risking any poor experiences, they have seemingly elected to handle it all in house. I cannot blame them.

I am not sure if you have taken apart an RV660 turbo, but I feel the need to point out, that it's idiot-proof enough that you cannot even clock it wrong. (it's pinned)

we're talking about a small subset of a small subset of enthusiasts who will even CONSIDER such an upgrade -they are not on the hook for damages with an aftermarket turbo; I don't follow the logic how they could be on the hook for damage for something they already took precautions to make it hard to screw up.

and I stand by my opinion, that any shops looking to do this for a customer; are not going to love having a car down for a week in a bay waiting for RV-6 to make a day job into a week job.

as we don't have any feedback from @RV-6 - I think we're really arguing about nothing

I can respect their decision - it's a major upgrade for the available drop in market as the airflow will be superior to anything else available. It will also add the sounds many guys expect from an upgraded turbo šŸ˜†

I'm interested in pricing as the turbo will already come with it and the elbow. That may keep some folks away as they can say "I only need 500whp and an MHI can get me there for say 700 to 1000 cheaper"

While true, they will be limiting themselves power wise as the RV6 with AS housing should add 15 to 30whp across the board, on top of what it can already do - obviously we will find out in testing but it's a conservative guess. Take the standard ceiling on oem motor from 560ish to 580-590ish whp which was my original goal.

Even better spool, better peak flow and ultimately a higher ceiling to what power it can make is still exciting. That true 3" opening at the housing really sets it apart from everything else. Removes a major restriction in the system the others can't.

Will solidify it as THE drop in to have - I can see why they've taken their time to get it right.

I think anyone seriously looking at an R660 would be leaving alot on the table if they chose not to upgrade to the AS housing - it's as big a game changer as the largest hotside ....less restriction, better efficiency - more power per psi - just a no brainer really.

I still have to test cams so I'll probably knock that out and see where I am with flow- if we can carry 32.5psi to 8300 with no drop off I may add a pracworks manifold to see if we can squeeze out a touch more - wherever we end up on that combo will be compared to the new AS housing version and we can see just how much the extra cfm makes a difference apples to apples on the big end.

Good times to come.

Its also nearly a month from when I last emailed rv6. Since they said it would take about a month. I tried to follow up a week ago since the pricing was leaked out. But I haven't gotten a reply. I still have my new r660 sitting at home, just waiting for them to give the green light so i can send it back to them. I just hope its soon.

Rich anything?

@RV6 Hey Rich ,

Have you heard any issues with your BPV installed throwing P2261 ?

I have turbo installed and every so often I get the P2261 code to trigger a CEL (every 1k miles)

not sure if an issue or something else going on or delay with the combination of the Pracworks Mani.

Fault is cleared for now, and code hasnā€™t returned, will keep an eye on it.
Alternatively could also trying running a direct higher grade vacuum line from BPV to Manifold.

fyi: this was same turbo where you sent me a new coolant hose line to turbo (Thanks for that).
Carefully check the line that goes to the bypass valve for leaks. It really fragile and if you use a tool like pliers to remove it it could have a pin hole that will cause that code. We usually replace the line or cut off the last inch or so for a fresh connection.

Apologies for the lack of updates. If I have learned anything from this process it is that getting custom parts made in low volume can be very time consuming. We are currently on revision 3 of the new T51R Mod / anti surge compressor cover. We currently have a few setups being tested and everything it looking great.

After finding no proper way to cram more into the R660 compressor housing we started over from scratch with new compressor housing and inlet elbow. Instead of limiting ourselves with the stock inlet gasket like other brands. We switched to an o-ring with a full 3" T51R anti surge inlet compressor cover. THIS COMPRESSOR COVER WILL ONLY WORK WITH A RV6 3" ELBOW. That being said we did make the elbow compatible existing titanium inlet pipes for the FK8. RV6 will also be releasing a carbon fiber inlet pipe for the FK8 that will be compatible with big bore/race maf intakes.

I know it might seem like swapping a compressor cover is trivial job. But there is much that goes into it. We have special fixtures and tooling to properly disassemble and assembly the turbo without potentially damaging the compressor wheel. For example the CHRA is pressed into the compressor cover using a load cell while the C-clip is installed using a slide hammer to ensure proper seating. Turbochargers operate at extreme speeds and tight tolerances. Something done incorrectly could easily damage the turbo and greatly reduce its life or cause a catastrophic failure. We had a customer send a R660 out to have the T51R mod done at a professional machine shop. They ended up cracking the CHRA during reassembly.

For those that can can not afford downtime. We will offer a rebuilt core trade in option for an additional $400. Basically this gets you a new/rebuilt bearing section (CHRA). This way you can send back your old compressor cover and CHRA after the conversion.

Here is the pricing structure for the upgrade. We have a limited number of compressor covers and will be doing the upgrade on those who have already purchased the turbo first. Once we get more stock we will be offering complete turbos with new cover already installed.

You guys gotta make an inlet like eventuri does where itā€™s just a flange to the turbo and not that big ugly elbow like prl! Aside from that what sort of gains can be expected from this full 3in inlet? Keep up the great work rv6!

Vocal or not about my opinion, I also am ready to do what needs to be done. Give me a date, and my turbo is pulled (I guess I just have to ride a motorcycle as a DD for a while, lol)

I have almost everything RV-6 makes, why would I not be first in line for this too?

my car has been down for a minute. i bought the r660 turbo then saw this upgrade. so i decided to wait it out just a little bit longer. It would of been pointless to install the turbo, tune it, then remove it for the upgrade, then reinstall it when it comes back. My brand new r660 is ready to be shipped back.

Iā€™ve been holding off on buying a titanium inlet to see what rv6 was going to come out with. Now Iā€™m stuck between which one I should get. Iā€™m leaning more towards CF because well itā€™s CF. Wondering how well CF deals with IATs
