If you have rear drums you may have the worst Type R ever made.

Can't say I've noticed any rust on mine but mine spends most of its time in the garage. I'd think a little green scrubby and some clr would take care of that.

I get surface rust on the brake rotors all the time. It's surface rust that goes away after the first time I use the brakes. My Type R has no drums though; I wouldn't want any either to be honest. Interesting brake swap if you got it.

Here's the irony guys. There's a company that makes Type R drums. Really. Just like the Civic Type R, these are top notch.

I am assuming you are talking about the rotor hats rusting, which is pretty hard to avoid. Some rotors come with the hats coated and painted and they seem to hold up a little better, but the stock R rotors are not painted.

I assume that the "hat" could be painted, after being properly prepped.
Special care should be taken to prevent any paint getting on the rotor surface.
Surface rust on the rotors is quite normal, even after simple exposure to rain, and the brake pads will remove it for you, the first time you use the brakes.
