I run the Phearable 1.5R and have a few suspension braces and overall I'm pretty happy with the car. Additionally, I bought the Type R subframe brace a LONG time ago and am finally getting around to installing it. So I figured swapping out the RMM at the same time would be a good idea. But, there's one hang up --- I hate NVH.

So, there's no way I'd be happy with what's out there on the aftermarket. The extra vibrations even here and there would drive me nuts. So I had this thought. The stock RMM on my car is basically plastic. What about upgrading it with the Si RMM? I know it would just make a small difference but it shouldn't add any NVH at all.

And then there's this. I almost never gun it off the line. I do go WOT here and there and enjoy giving it the beans around corners here and there. But basically, I'd say my driving style is just "a somewhat speedy commuter".

In my case does it even sound like a RMM is something I should bother with?

If you hate NVH don't bother with upgrading the RMM. It has been awhile but I think the SI RMM and the non-si use basically the same rmm. To get an upgrade would be the CTR rmm.

The install honestly doesn't take that long. The time it takes to do an oil change you could do a RMM swap. So worst case if you are really curious but don't like it, you could revert back.

Personally I love mine. I have the 62 version of the Torque Solutions RMM. Now I will say if you don’t have paddles or do not constantly have the car in “S” I would definitely not advise you to get one. the mirrors and dash will vibrate like crazy under 1500 RPM and especially harder with the A/C. BUT very noticeable response when getting on it from a slow roll and absolutely no wheel hop. As far as Si version I have no idea about that, but that’s my 2 cents on the RMM on the CVT

My understanding is the CVTs have a plastic mount where the SI is metal. I think the manual transmission base models use the same one as the Si but the CVTs RMM is plastic.

Yeah I rarely use "S". But the idea of better response and no wheel hop is the tempting part.

Even with the CTR RMM, you would still get wheel hop from a dead stop. Only after going to the 27won I guess its now called their "race" version, did it eliminate most of the wheel hop at least for my setup.

I remember seeing a few posts of people trying the window weld version waay back. Basically stick with your original rmm and add some window weld and that was a decent enough solution to offer a bit better performance with very minimal addition to NVH.

A bit more support would be the perrin inserts iirc.

So CVT RMM > SI RMM/CVT w/Window Weld > CVT RMM w/Perrin Inserts > CTR RMM > 62A RMM (various brands) > 27won street rmm > Hasport 90+ rmm > 27won race rmm.

The question of NVH tolerance is so hard to gauge because people have such different standards as to what is too much and what is acceptable.

Sorta like how some people can't even stand the sound and vibrations that going to a full catless setup would do while others barely even notice it.

Best bet I think is to honestly give the swap a shot and see.

I had the 27WON street (70A) RMM for a bit but the NVH was unbearable around the 1-2k RPM range, which was 99% of my daily driving. I swapped it out for the CTR RMM and NVH is back to basically stock level as far as I can tell.

I’ve gone full circle on the subject. I too hate NVH and have tried several RMM solutions (to reduce wheel hop), but the vibration drove me crazy.

I’ve come to accept that, like most any FWD car, wheel hop on hard launches is par for the platform and can be just as easily minimized by a bit more judicious throttle control. I.e. don’t just mash it to the floor and go along for the ride.

For me anyway, it’s not like I’m trying to beat a Tesla Model S off the line every afternoon in a Civic. (As if that was possible anyway.)

I feel like the CTR RMM is perfect not so much NVH or at all I tried it with the perrin inserts bad idea too much NVH so i reverted back to the stock CTR RMM.

That's where I hesitate. I mean it's not a super cheap mod if you're not sure. The CTR RMM is what, around $150? And I hear people say "it's almost like stock". But NVH is so subjective. I mean I seriously get irritated by vibration, rattles and extra noise.

That's why I keep thinking the Si mount might be enough of an upgrade for me over the CVT mount. Or just stay stock.

After trying different configurations of RMM on my Si, I feel the only way to completely eliminate wheel hop is with actual motor mounts. In general CVTs have excessive vibration at a stop in drive, I remember putting my car in neutral at long red lights

I’ll put is this way, after going from stock to 27Won street, then to CTR OEM… the 27Won street was a clear and significant increase in NVH. When I popped in the CTR OEM RMM, it felt like stock NVH again. After a while living with it, I can tell it’s a little louder on start-up and overall volume, but the overall vibe is still well within “stock” feeling.

This is in my 6MT hatch though

Stock type r with powerflex street insert is 100% no increase in nvh.I had the CTR rmm for years and ever since I inserted the powerflex insert it totally got even better and don't even notice the difference in nvh.
I had a perrin insert before and that was too much nvh for me .You can't go wrong with oem type r rmm.

I had the FK8 RMM in my tuned 2016 EXL. I didn't have any inserts, the only noticeable NVH was right at start up. Other than that there was no NVH while at idle or with the AC on like other RMMs. There was a slight improvement with wheel hop, that probably would've been completely gone with the Powerflex insert. Either way I was happy with the upgrade. You can probably find one on Ebay for less than $100.

In my 11th Gen Sport Touring I had the PRL RMM for awhile, but I run the AC all the time so the NVH got a bit much. Changed to the FL5 RMM and couldn't be happier. I may try the FL5 Powerflex insert later on just to try it.
