Hello,

I have a 2016 Honda Civic EXL. Runs great - 66000 miles. It needs new brake pads. Autozone is recommending changing rotor as a good practice with brake pads. My rotors look good - very minor scratches on them.

My questions

1) Do I need to replace all the rotors along with the brake pads?
2) What's a reasonably good brand to buy?

1. Usually yes, better to replace them both at the same time.
2. Powerstop I would recommend.

Couple of options for you. Get better quality rotors, maintain and machine them, and they’ll outlast 2-3 sets of pads.

Or get cheaper rotors and replace them with pads every time. This is the route I’ve gone with more recently as I don’t have daily access to a brake lathe anymore. I’ve had zero issues with Centric brand rotors.

Another option is to have a backup pair of rotors, one pair waiting for a resurface, and the other set on the car. That way I can always slap on a fresh surface for the pads, then resurface the old rotors with zero downtime.

With what the shops in my area would charge to resurface rotors, I always replace them when I replace my pads (other cars, my Si is new). I've had great success with Raybestos pads and rotors.
