Instead of paper towels, how about running to the bathroom and rolling up a little bathroom tissue, they seem softer for obvious reasons but never tried it myself. The one time I had one bomb on the roof, I think I used some napkins with water to buffer ofcourse, you the one from those fast food restaurants I SELDOM or NARY go to anymore, for obvious reasons as well.

Why not use cotton for a cheap disposable clean-up rag? I'm sure many of us have a bunch of ratty t-shirts or some such kicking around. Grab one and rip it into 8x8" squares. Use it to clean up the bird gunk, then throw it away. Take the money you saved by not buying extra microfiber cloths for one-time use, and use it to buy yourself some new threads. ;)

Because cotton tees are likely to scratch compared to microfiber

My Si is black, it's never felt a towel. I use a blaster blower. When I have issues with bird spots, the car gets washed or the spots get pre-treated and I go through a touchless. Having a good sealant/ceramic coating helps the bird spots lift right off.
