Hi guys,
First, this will be somewhat be large post with lots of pictures. Lots of respect if you read the whole thing, but even a vote is helpful. I was going to post this in the wheel/tire section but thought I would get more input here. If it has to be moved I understand.
My wife can attest - I've spent far too much time (hours every night) looking at wheel/tire combos over the last two months and I've finally decided to get some help here. I know that I'll be going with Michelin PS4s in either 265/35/18 275/35/18 or 255/35/19 but I just can't decide on which wheel to go with. A few important points/questions:
1. I will never do any track driving, but I do get plenty of spirited windy road driving and I would like to preserve as much of the cars original driving character/dynamics
2. I don't want to lower the car so I want something that's going to look good without a drop
3. I also want something significantly quieter than the stock wheel/tire combination. I got a pair of Bridgestone WS90s in 225/40/18s on my car now for winter and it's AMAZING how much quieter it is. Will PS4s in 275/35/18 be quieter than PS4s in 255/35/19?
4. I want the wheel to look good on PMM
5. I want to avoid any rubbing. There will be times when I might have a full car of people but I don't think that'll be an issue with any of my picks.
Okay. Here we go. These are some pictures I've collected of the various wheel options from other members on this forum and social media. Some are on PMM and others are not. Some may have a drop, but I've tried to get cars that had stock suspensions to keep the comparison fair.
1. Titan TS5 18 X 9.5 45 offset (Satin Titanium)
Pros: 45 offset is pretty good, super light (forged), look pretty good on stock height
Cons: Not a whole lot - maybe their not as original as some other wheels they've become quite popular?
2. Titan TS5 19 X 9.5 45 offset (Satin Titanium)
Pros: Maybe it fills out whe wheel wells better than the 18s
Cons: Adds at least $5-600 over the cost of the 18s, heavier than the 18s
3. NSX Y Wheels - 19 X 8.5 55 offset Silver):
Pros: Offset closest to stock wheels, pretty light for 19s (forged)
Cons: Not entirely sure I like how they look in silver...think they look better on PMM in powdered black
4. NSX Y Wheels - 19 X 8.5 55 offset (powerdercoated black):
Pros: I think they look a little better than the silver on PMM
Cons: Powder coating the wheels will add extra cost
5. Desmond Regamaster Wheels - 18 X 9.5 45 offset (Gloss Gunmetal):
Pros: I think these wheels look pretty awesome and they're more rare which a bonus, light (forged), 45 offset
Cons:Most expensive wheels on the list, also seem harder to acquire, decals can come off easily (I use a pressure washer to wash)
6. Desmond Regamaster Wheels - 18 X 9.5 45 offset (Almighty Grey):
Pros: same as above
Cons: same as above
I wish I had a picture of this on a Type R but I wasn't able to find one anywhere. Not sure what would look better on PMM, this color the the gloss gunmetal?
7. Volk Racing Saga Time Attack 18 X 9.5 44 offset:
Pros: Light (forged), limited run, black/red color scheme remind me of stock wheels, they're on sale so it's a good time to buy
Cons: Even though they're on sale, they're second most expensive behind the Regamaster
8. Superspeed RF05RR 19 X 9.5 +40:
Pros: By far the cheapest wheel, still quite light as well but they're cast instead of forged, and I think they look quite good
Cons: 40 offset is worst of the group which might affect handling
Besides the wheels themselves I'm quite interested in what you guys think about my tire size quandary. While I think the 18's in 265/35/18s or 275/35/18s will give me a bigger contact patch for traction and around town might provide more resistance against pot holes, I'm worried they'll be more prone to hydroplaning in heavy rain and I'm not sure they'll be more quieter than 255/35/19. If you've made it to the end mad respect. Thanks guys!
