...So today I received my valve cover after like 5 months (yeah wait was 5 months for a valve cover, I know people who ordered the bumper and got it in 3 months) Anyways after opening the box with excitement I take the valve cover out the smell of paint hit me in the face lol secondly the paint quality is horrible, especially for a product that’s overpriced and from Spoon Sports. I am highly disappointed and wondering what are my options beside, exchanging, refund (which I’m stuck with paying shipping myself and 25% restocking fee,
I would like a replacement but damn...don’t want to wait another 5 months lol
Or I could just say eff it and don’t deal with it. On a scale of 1 to 10 paint is like a 6/7

Wow, no offense, but is this authentic Spoon? As in from an authorized Spoon dealer? For a genuine piece it definitely looks like shit for what they cost. I hope others who bought this can chime in. This (and the J's valve cover) were on my radar but now I'm not so sure....

Yep, to my knowledge it’s authentic. Came in spoon box and everything, not that it actually means anything. Purchased from Art of Attack, was told 8 to 12 weeks because being sent from Japan. It’s pretty sad tho
Just trying to make this engine look good lol should have went Js

I’d reach out to them first to give them an opportunity to make it right. If they won’t, post these pictures on every form of social media, tag them, and make a stink. There’s way too much of this inexcusable crap QC going on in the aftermarket parts world. Just look at the Mugen tailight moisture problems for a good example.

My opinion on this is that people pay extra for spoon pieces because of the time and effort that goes into small details such as the overall finish of the product. I would replace it and just take the L on waiting time, thats still better than settling or returning it and paying the restocking fee.

And also I think people need to stop "settling" with these super expensive pieces just because of the hassle. If the valve cover is authentic, Spoon needs to know that their products are not up to quality, and shouldn't command the price they charge. You aren't paying for any performance benefits, you're paying extra for the refinement and quality of work, which this definitely does not have...

If this is truly authentic, that's really a shame, i don't know if I can give Spoon my money if this is the kind of stuff that they're shipping out to their customers.

Honestly just contact Art of attack, I’m pretty sure they will be able to solve this for you.

I find it hard to believe that cover is authentic Spoon. I second @Ducky .... anyone not labeled as a genuine dealer is asking for trouble.

I personally hold Spoon to a higher standard than other jdm brands. I would never purchase a Js Racing product. I have seen too many questionable final products from them...

IMO, You are just better off asking them since is a brand new product you purchased. Authentic or not , they do have a return policy and exchange. There are many options, just for sure contact them and don’t keep something you are not satisfied with. Even if at the end it will get dirty and discolored over time inside the engine bay ???.

That very well could be a possibility. How is it that they can list several products from spoon and push their products if they aren’t authorized dealer...What about websites like evasive Motorsports, Dream Automotive, or kamispeed. Neither of them are authorized dealers but still list their products on their websites. Lol I a bit confused now, Only reason I ordered from them was because I was already picking up a few other parts. Now I know, I will get in contact with art of attack and see what I can make happen.

Just because you aren't authorized to sell the product doesn't mean you can't get your hands on it. The quality of the product you received looks pretty bad though.

Another thing to consider is that they may be an official retailer, but the list may not be completely up to date. I remember when I bought a pair of headphones from Drop that came it not the best condition. I wanted to know if I could do an out of warranty repair on them (drop price + out of warranty repair < retail) and found out, nope, Drop was an official retailer, but wasn't listed. Granted this isn't a car part, but could be a similar situation.

That is not a 6/7, more like a 3. That is horrible quality. Would not want that on my own car.

It's not just yours. Looks like mine has some bad spots up close. I honestly think spoon and Mugen are losing some of their spirit or soul... I even visited spoon and type one last June for my birthday. Lately some of their products seem gimmicky or of lower standards. It won't be long before Spoon's stuff is outsourced from Taiwan like mugen, blitz, and j's are doing now.

I got the rear view mirror and the adhesive separated from itself within 2 months and they wouldn't send me a replacement.

I doubt yours is fake. Looks like the paint has the same exact issues in similar spots on mine. It also doesn't matter who's on spoons vendor list. Basically anyone can sign up with gotuningunlimited to be a vendor and it drop ships from gotuning. I was able to get a really good deal on mine through Vivid. I think I paid $440 shipped.

Issues are really only noticeable up close. At least it looks good with everything installed though.

Sorry, these are all screenshots because my photos are too high res and even as jpeg's they're like 18mb+ so the forum won't upload them.

Here's the mirror. Crappy adhesive just came apart from itself and started to bow out from the middle. I'd have to keep lightly pressing it back into place. Of course it eventually cracked because it's so flimsy.

What's up with all these mugen/spoon accessories that are basically stuck on with double sided tape....

I guarantee that was authentic but just a sad story of poor quality. At the end of the day it’s a plastic valve cover painted. Could have painted one better by self but being masses produced I doubt there going to spend all day doing so..it then comes down to the buyer..part of the reason I haven’t bought one and I’m a spoon fan..you can’t justify that price for just a painted cover when quality could very well be like this..and yet it is..some things are just not worth it when you break it down..I would try and get my money back.
